Mangus' EKidna!

Post by mangus »

Hey Everyone,

My name is Amanda, and my partner Angus and I have recently bought an EK Special Sedan.

Growing up, my family had an FB for 16 years. We got it when I was 4 years old and I loved this car, learnt to drive in it, firstly around the yard and driveway when I was about 10, then later on my L's and P's. I spent many hours helping dad polish it, him telling me it would be mine one day.... but then he sold it!!

I always thought ONE day I would get another one, but never thought it would be so soon, until my brother mentioned a guy dad knows had an EK I could buy... next thing I know I was paying for it!

Little did I know it was an EK that dad had got for parts and resold back in 1994 and found some pics from when we owned her for a short time...

The people I bought her from got her in the same condition Dad sold it, but started the restoration process and she is now rust-free, repainted and reupholstered and ready to be reassembled!!

After calling the FB - FeeBee/Phoebe, I wanted something a bit more creative and couldn’t stop smiling when I thought of EKidna/Echidna, especially as some parts have been a prick to find!!

Well after over a month of waiting to pick her up (too many projects, not enough room!), gathering all the bits and pieces, I finally have her and can’t wait to get her on the road! At the moment she is safely parked in the garage where I can’t get to work on her, but hopefully things will start coming together a bit more soon. Here are some photos from picking her up...

Now if only I could get the avatar thing figured out!

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah some might say it's lucky it was already painted otherwise she might have ended up hot pink! Already found Steve's thread and posted my info! Still having trouble with the avatar getting the kb small enough without turning the photo ant size! This one is a pic of our old FB and it only worked coz it was a tiny mobile phone photo from back in the day. Any help appreciated :)

Welcome to the forum Amanda & Angus. :D

Looks like the "EKidna" has had the lions share of the work done which will make it easier to get it back on the streets were it belongs. Love the colours and especially the new upholstery!
What's your plans for it once rego'd..is it going to be the "Sunday Best" or an everyday driver?
As for your Avatar...it looks ok to me...they do get a bit hard to see at the best of times..why not post a larger photo of it in a reply next time so we all can see it...we love the old photos on here..the more the merrier!

Thanks Tim, but it's actually Twilight Turquoise - close though!
Thanks Scotty, the work that's already been done looks great, I can't wait to have it on the road.
At this stage it will be an everyday driver!
With the avatar I meant that I can't get any other pic to shrink small enough in kb, except that one???
Here's some pics of FeeBee :) miss her heaps, but hopefully EKidna will fill the void when I finally get to drive her :)
A collage of family history!!

Great story there Magnus - must feel good to be back behind the wheel of an FB/EK :D

I used to spend a bit of time around Murwillumbah as my Girlfriend (now my wife!) used to live there... I do remember seeing your FB in the shopping centre car park. Must have been hard to sell it... I've had mine near 16 years now and it's not for sale!

Keep us updated on the EK build

Cheers,

Matt

Looks like a great start, well done. Good to see your no stranger to these old buses, once you've had one its hard not to have at least one.

Thanks Matt, that's cool that u recognised Feebee!
Thanks Devilrod... one's enough for now!! Although Dad's talking about getting a ute now,
maybe he feels bad for selling the FB and now that I've got the EK, he misses her too??
Anyone with a ute project for sale, let me know!!
