Has any one made there own collaspable steering column.
I have ek and a vk one as well. The outer is the same as the ek. What about welding shaft.?
What does pat gard do on his exchange columns?
Any help in the right direction would be great.
Its all to suit hr front end with v6 con rack and pinion.

Yes - I used an EK column and a VK lower half in my V6 EK - I cant remember exactly what I did but it only took a couple of hours to make it all work. Only major job was I machined a groove in the bottom of the shaft for a circlip - apart from that it was easy.

Question :? . With a collapsable column doesn't the shaft have to be collapsable as-well as the outer?
What makes the inner collapsable?

The vr column does accept the ek steering wheel.
And looks like a easier column to fit up. But i think the linkage is to short to v6 conversion
Rack. Ill find out tonight. Iv got two ek columns and a vk and vr column bound to have a solutiion after 8 beers.i tried to call v6 conversions all week with no reply

I know this thread is way old but just had to add my 2c... A VN column basically just bolts in like its meant to be there. Only downside being that it has the ugly plastic surround but I'm sure the more industrious types could easily knock up a much nicer shroud to make it look all pretty. And being collapsible it's just the ticket....

And on a semi-related note- VN automatic pedal assemblies are a perfect size up on the firewall as well. Was gobsmacked at how these bits basically just bolted straight in. I think the pedals just needed a couple of holes but aside from that no worries :)

Yep, point taken , the reason I cut and shut an EK column was - probably the same reason lots of other people do the same thing - to keep the original wheel. The VN column will bolt up as you say but you cant get what i would consider a period correct wheel to fit the later model spline.

I considered trying to get another column to keep an older wheel on there, but figured that trying to manhandle a large old Holden 60's steering wheel wont be fun when I get really crossed up at the drags/ on my way to work... lol.

In my case I'm thinking of running a 70's type wheel like a Grant PN 838- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-838. Foam grip on the outside, looks racey :)

just under $40 (before shipping...), and i'd just get my fabricator mate to knock up a boss kit. Sorted :)
