Greetings fellow twin finners, thought it was about time I shared my project with the world again. For those members of the vic club, you will remember my segment in the club newsletter. "the project", which documented progress of my FB sedan re-build. I think I left off somewhere here:

The body is all done, everything has been re-built from the steering to brakes to cross member, and totally re-wired. (incorporating a few extras like the alarm/remote keyless operation, just like a modern car.
The part of the journey I'd like to share from here is the fun bit.

Oh no! I hear you cry, not one of those crappy VK injected 202's with the old fashioned Bosch ECU!
I've decided do ditch everything except the throttle body plenum/runner/rail assembly and go after market, MAFless and incorporating the ignition control. A good mate mine who knows my interest in electronics suggested I read up on the world beyond the Venturi principle, I must say, I feel like Neo from the matrix after taking the red pill.
So far I have been working on fuel delivery re twin lines, surge tank and multiple filters. I hope this may be of interest to anyone considering taking the EFI trip. If you are, then please do ask questions or offer advice. More pics to follow soon.

Good to hear from you again Richard, last time i saw your FB it was in bare metal and on a rotisserie, that colour looks kool. Are you still planning on using it as a daily driver? judging by the pix it looks to good for an every day car.

Hey Joe, good to hear from you again. The idea is this will be the family car, ie the daily drive for the Missus. I've got most of it done, all mechanical parts have been renewed. I took a whole month off to design the wiring system and wire the car, so with my electrical/electronics background I had some fun. All I have left to do is the motor and the trim.
The decision to go EFI was born of the fact we wanted good power and drivability, fuel economy, clean running ( I'm not really a tree hugger, but I reckon things will tighten up in the future regarding emissions). Plus, now I have a spare knob on the dash (choke) which will now be a rheostat to control the rate of the intermittent wipers. Again, with the electronics background I'm using a DIY fuel injection system which I can tune and save on the fly with a laptop. The ecu is built and bench tested, which was a lot of fun for a nerd like me!

Finally finished building and testing the ECU. It's from a mob called Megasquirt. Bought the kit online from an EFI specialist in the US. 450 bucks, landed.
That also includes the loom and a test board which you use to bench test the unit. Not bad considering the price for a basic aftermarket unit starts at around the 2 grand mark. Comes as a blank PCB and a heap of components. (all bagged and tagged) You need to be handy with a soldering iron.
This one is designed to run purely as a MAFless system, so it uses a MAP sensor, air temp, coolant temp, throttle position, EGO and RPM to determine Fuel enrichment. Being MAFless, I don't have to worry about using that restrictive gate type sensor or having to duct the air intake anywhere. I could just mount an air filter onto the throttle body.
It also has an output to control the ignition, so you can also adjust dwell and advance with the laptop.
The software to run and tune it is free on the net, and I had a fair bit of fun playing with that, too. On screen you get a load of gauges, showing RPM, dwell, advance, air to fuel ratio and loads of other stuff. In the pull-down menus you have all sorts of tables and graphs to optimize performance. I've embarked on a steep learning curve, so I'll welcome any questions or comments. Next up I'm doing all the fuel delivery stuff. More pics to follow.

Hi Guys. Great to hear from you again. I would really like to bring the FB along to Mt Gambier, so I guess it comes down to whether I can get it finished by then. So now all I need to do is get a move on and finish it without rushing things!
The last of the big stuff left is the motor, EFI system and trim.
The trim can wait until it's running and registered.
