Mystery engine mount plates

Hi everyone,

When we pulled the engine out these plates were underneath each of the rear engine mounts. They look to be home made jobbbies.

Engine block is EJ.

Any ideas why they would have been there? My guess is the engine mounts had collapsed and needed replacement. Rather than buying new mounts they were 'built up' by the plates.

Any other suggestions?

Stewart

Can't say I recall seeing them from a factory install.

I'd say your collapsed rubber mount theory Stewart is probably a more likely reason for the manufacture of the plates to help re-align the engine back to it's normal alignment position.

Thanks for your reply Terry. The only other thought I had was that an EJ block in an EK may make a difference? I doubt it though...

I'm not planning on putting them back in.

Never seen them either Stewart. They do have that home made look about them.

Steve - yep definitely home made.

Would I be correct in assuming an EJ block would have the same external dimensions of earlier grey blocks for FB and EKs...?

Yep, exactly the same and the EJ was supposed to be the best of the grey blocks to have.

Had a look at mine, which also has an EJ engine. Couldn't see anything like that on mine.

My FB is running an EJ block (and FB/FC heads  ) - no sign of the mystery plates on mine either.

Thanks Pete and Harv. Mystery solved. I'll end up putting some repro engine mounts back in so the mystery plates wont be needed. :)
