Hi All
Read a number of post regarding the fitting of 14” rims and wheel stud lengths.
After advice on this forum (thanks) I thought I would post some pick of the differences.
The EK ones are shorter and the nut tapers are 45 deg
The EH – WB are about 6 mm (1/4 inch for us old blokes) longer with a 60 deg taper.
Found the 4 lb gimpy worked better than my dead blow. And an over size nut and the windy gun to install the new ones.
Will post picks of the job if its any use.
Useless info for some but helpful for others.
PS got the draft beer flowing again in the shed MMMMM BEEERRR
Cheers
Gazza

I see the EH - WB ones are also much straighter than the earlier modelsWesternWagon wrote:The EH – WB are about 6 mm (1/4 inch for us old blokes) longer with a 60 deg taper.

Re: HT Rims EH - WB wheel studs
Pressed the old suds out today and pressed the new ones in.
Note on the photo that the longer studs also have a longer serration, I will have to drill the brake drums out.
Also 3mm spacers are need as the tie rod ends hit the rim.
Cheers

You say that wheel nuts up to EK (and I assume, EJ) have 45 degree taper and EH - WB have wheel nuts with 60 degree taper....
This has also been discussed on the FE/FC forum, and someone there said that the 45 degree nuts were used right up to and including HK, with HT - WB using 60 degree nuts.
Had a look at the Holden Master Parts cattledog, and found "Nut, Wheel Hub, FJ - HR, 7407655, 20 of" (note that this cattledog went up to HR only...)
Given that using the wrong taper nuts on a wheel could cause problems, and given that lots of us use steelies FE up to HG on our FE - EKs, it would be real good if we could sort this one out properly...
I'm guessing that using the old 45 degree nuts on wheels designed for 60 degree nuts would be less dangerous than vice-a-versa.
Many of us also use after-market chrome wheel nuts on our steelies too, and it's a fair assumption that these would be the later design 60 degree nuts (I just checked out 3 different sets of chrome nuts in my shed - they were all 60 degree...)
Using these 60 degree nuts on older wheels designed for 45 degree nuts might cause very little contact area between nut and wheel, and could therefore cause some minor probs (like wheels falling off! )
Can anyone shed some more light on this one?? I for one would definitely like to know precisely at what model the taper on the wheel nut seats changed to 60 degrees, and also whether using the wrong taper nuts can be an issue or not...
cheers, jack

Its a good point you make. Rare spares catalogue the following list FJ-HK, #WN 1002, But the wheel studs are FJ- HG. Then the nuts start again at NUT HG - WB & LC – UC #WN 1005 Looks like poor old HT misses out. They have a number of different combinations, and they don seen to line up?
The important thing is that people know that there are two different tapers and to match the accordingly.
I wouldn’t think the wheel will fall off if the correct amount of thread was used, the main importance as you know is to match the nut taper to the wheel taper. But it would be good to know for sure.
A lot of the chrome nuts on E Bay just state 7/16 FX – WB, so you may be right about the chrome nuts.

WN 1002 - WHEEL NUT FJ-HK
WN 1005 - WHEEL NUT HG - WB & LC – UC
WS 1001 - WHEEL STUD FJ - HG LC – LJ
WS 10015 - WHEEL STUD (PACK OF 5) HOLDEN FJ-HG, & LJ TORANA
Anyone shed any more light on this one?
Cheers
