G'day all, finally got myself a car (cars!) for resto. Was originally looking for an fb special wagon but settled for a sedan ( thanks tim )
Just after some thoughts. I was always after a Kodiak car with White insert and always planned on doing it all original, but with 14" stockies, and lowered 1.5 maybe 2".
The thing is, I want to put a fuel injected 5 litre ( VN/VP) in it, but try to make it look like it come out in it ( paint basically the whole engine grey)
Any thoughts would be appreciated as after being at the all Holden day today , really not sure if i want to *wreck* as I imagine some would say!, an original car.
I know it's differen't strokes for differen't blokes but I would hate to disappoint the proper enthusiast.
Any ones thought/ideas would be appreciated, positive or negative, one bloke I spoke to today CRINGED when I told him my plans
Basically what I want is a stock as a rock looking fb, lowered enough that it sits neat....but with balls!!!

it's yor car f#%k what everybody else thinks i get a buzz out of upsetting the purists can't wate to take my EXTREMELY rare austin A40 panelvan fitted with a holden red motor where i can upset the restorers did the same with my FB convertable took it to an AHD and parked next to a real good stocker should have seen this clown carry on in the end he moved his car

P.S. there's nothing wrong with a stock/restored car it's just the attitude some of the peanuts that own them have, i can enjoy them all but they can't

On a seroius note though, I'm 35 and I'm stuck between full on smash it tough as f**k and original driving Miss Daisy. Appreciate the originals soooooooooo much, but you can't beat a well done modified V8 conversion!

I'm with ratbox, it's your car, in my opinion I love the look of the 5ltr feul injected motors in them!! Dunno about painting it grey tho!! Lol

Personally I like them bone stock, but if someone wants to chop one or put a V8 in it, it's their car No one, who owns a similar car, has a right to tell you what you can or can't do to your car

your saving a car that would otherwise be parted out and scrapped. No one who really appreciates these cars would begrudge you restoring it with your own twist.

You have to do what is going to make you happy. What car do you really, really want? Do what Blacky suggested to Jay - flip a coin (heads original, tails modified) and whilst it's in the air, go with the side that you want it to land on.

Having said that, apart from dollars and storage space, there's nothing stopping you from owning an example of each (and you can always put the stocker on club plates).

If the car you have is something special (e.g., two owner, low miles, beautiful original paint, mint original interior, written documentation and so forth) I would keep it original and buy an eBay dunger to put the V8 in. But if the one you have is not that out of the ordinary, then modify it. There was another guy whom used to be on the forum alot, FB MAD, who was doing up an FB with an old Chev V8 to look like it came from the factory.

I've always loved the nostalgia of hot grey motor so that's what I did to mine. But if I break that engine, I won't rebuild another grey as they are just waaaay too expensive to hot up. I'd put in a hot nostalgia red motor instead (e.g. triples, X2 headers, alloy finned rocker cover, etc). I can hear ratbox crowing about that already

i new he'de rule the world can't see you blowing it up though seems to have been put togeather by somebody quite knowledgeable and i doubt you'll be constantly flogging the daylights out of it you could always keep a grey just with multi carbs etc

As others have said your car your call. Just check the rego options first. That could be your limiting factor.

As far as I'm aware, going by what I've read on here , I can have a 308. 327's the biggest for FB's?
Although knowing vicroads or whoever governs it ( no doubt they'd be wa**ers ) It probably changes like they change they're undies!
