Hi Guys,

just after some advice from anyone with the experience or knowledge on engine, tailshaft, trani, diff combinations in EK sedans.

My current set up is HR front end, 202 red with mild cam, 350 holley carb, trimatic auto & now I'm looking at options for the diff & tail shaft if necessary cause the original EK one just won't with the high revs at higher speeds. I'm thinking 3.08 but just wondering which one would be the best to get? any ideas? would the HR one do it easily?? I'm also running 14"x7" dragways

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated

Cheers Stu

Hi guys, I'm wanting to put a 3.08 behind my 202 and trimatic in an EK sedan. Now sorry for my ignorance but what's the best way to go about doing this?

Can you get 3.08 centres that go into existing otriginal EK diff housing or should I look at getting a drum to drum 3.08 out of a HR - which I've heard bolt straight in to the EK? or is this info incorrect?

Any help or clarity would be ver much appreciated.

Cheers

Stu

you can put the later centres in the early housing, if you change the whole housing there's a couple of small issues to deal with a few changes to the brake pipes and the handbrake cable you'll either need a custom made one or muck around making the HR one fit, custom one's $100ish from memory
the EJ-HR housing to me is the best opyion that way you can have rear brakes to match the front

thanks mate, just one other concern, do you know if the overall width changes between the original EK diff and HR one? I have 14x7 wheels that just make it under the guards so can't afford a wider overall diff?

pretty sure they're the same wouldn't be much in it if there was a differance, i can tell you the width of a HR diff tomorrow as i have one i can measure

yeah that would be great if you could. Maybe from outside edges of drum to the same on the other side if you could?

thanks for your help

Im not sure how you can use this information but here it is anyway.

HR is a bit wider than HD and EH.

From memory the difference is about three quarters of an inch.

I dont know how this relates to an EK diff, maybe someone else can fill in the blanks.

HR diff drum to drum (face where wheel bolts) 56,5/8"
EJ diff drum to drum 56,1/4"
so overall 3/8" differance from EJ to HR and the differance is only in the brakes 3/16" each side
don't have an FB/EK diff around so can't tell you that one

thanks all for posts and advice - all much appreciated and helpful in making the decision on which way to go.

It looks like I'm going to pick up a 3.08 out of a HR which evidently should bolt on roigianl EK housing with a few small mods and adjustments.

I'll let you know how I go with a hopefully successful story at the end of it :)
