questions about v8's in old holdens (mounts/steering)

Hi Guys,

so this car is an EH but alot of the issues will be the same for FB/EK etc

ok quick run down, the missus has the desire to have a v8 in her project car so commodore efi v8 and t700 tranny have been sourced. Now i have worked out we need a HQ type sump and have test fitted one no problems.

next issue is engine mounts, currently the car has a hr front end in it which has had a cut down torana rack mounted to the front of it, and at the moment the HR engine mounts are in their original location.

I have trial fitted some HQ type engine mounts which seem to get the rubber mount about as close to the oil pump as possible, so the options i am left with are as follows:

* cut the firewall out and recess the engine back a bit (this should then allow mounts to line up with hr crossmember)
* make custom mounts to sit the engine further forward than above option and then require radiator to be moved forwards etc.
* some other magical mount setup i don't know about

i guess what i'd like to see is any pics of what people have done and any info on different part options etc ?

also things like alternator brackets, did you have to go custom or was there something at the wreckers ?

i'm also wondering if there are other water pumps off earlier model holden v8's that might have shorter snouts etc to help with this ?

please let me know if you need anymore info ?

yeah i have seen that one, great looking conversion, but i don't really show enough detail on engine mounts etc unfortunately.
