Seat Repair

Post by karting dad »

What is the best approach to fixing a split seam?
Does the whole trim have to come off?

Also, what colour is Mawson?
My trim code is 679-970

Thanks in advance.

Trim 970 is "Mawson and Athens Grey" as per the GMH master parts cattledog.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hi KD, to repair the trim properly, the seat would need to come out and the squab would be removed.

If you have original floor mats in good shape, let me know, and we can type you around that challenge. without destroying the mats.

Mawson is the Darker Grey. (The fist name is the boarders, second is the insert)

I would repair the seat before it does damage. Maybe the is a broken or collapsed spring underneath, that is putting pressure on the trim.

Beautiful trim!

The only way to repair this properly (IMHO) is to remove the cover from the seat and hand-stitch the seam with a blunt needle from the back.
The thread used back in the day tends to deteriorate over time.
Sewing with a machine might be quick, but you'll put another set of holes in the vinyl (unless you are extremely careful or lucky) and weaken the vinyl with the extra perforations.
Using a blunt needle makes it easier to follow the existing holes.
