I MIGHT have had a win with the alternator - the charge post was loose and wobbly when I bolted it back in after lending it to a mate , I pulled it out this morning and thought I would have a look at it before ordering a new one.
Removed the back of it and looky here -

The nut on the inside was loose as buggery -

Removed it and the post , cleaned it up and reassembled it with a dollop of Loctite then fought the brushes back into their holders with the aid of a short piece of TIG wire and a scriber
Reassembled it and was going to put it back on but I am too bloody crook - half an hour in the shed and that’s the end of me

Refitted the alternator today, plus replaced the crook O2 sensor. Took the throttle body off to check out the funky readings and it looks like the switch is dicky- is a second hand one by the look of it , has a Nissan brand in it but when you google it it comes up as a VL Commodore part. New one is $180 but a VN style one is $20 and it just so happens I had one in the shed so will make a bracket tomorrow and use one of them

VL style

VL vs VN

Checking resistance and compatibility

New plug required- can buy new for under $10

The RB30 TPS’s are notoriously unreliable. When they fail, the car runs, but erratic as hell.
Don’t ask me how I know

Couldn’t find any aluminium plate thick enough but I have heaps of copper floating around so I cut a new mounting ring using the 2 holesaw method today
