I'd suggest checking the valve stem height while you have it apart if you haven't.

I just looked up the photo's I posted of my console they have disappeared ( Photo Bucket ) .I agree with Harv needs to have some curves I will repost my console tomorrow as I am very happy with the way it turned out, Mine is for a sedan but some thing along those lines, you have put a lot of work in Frank don't stop now. It may not be your cup of tea but just a thought.

Well I got to take Frank for a short drive yesterday got up to 100 Km/h and it changed through all the gears so was really happy that the basic first tune they have done and the fitting of the high stall torque converter has done what it was supposed to do only now I have a problem with the top radiator hose that I have to sort out.
I've said it before but "1 step forward 2 steps back"

Hey Greg to tell you the truth I didn't find out in my business working on very large diesels we always prefer to find what we call "the smoking gun" when we are fault finding breakdowns and I didn't find it.
I changed the lifters and still got zero compression on #1 when both rockers were tensioned down, after a little investigation I found that the exhaust valve was the one being held open slightly.
To get full compression I had to have the exhaust valve rocker bolt tensioned to under 10 Nm which was not acceptable obviously so I made up a small shim and fitted it under the rocker post and tensioned down the rocker bolt fully and had full compression 150 psi.
I had measured the valve height and found it to be in tolerance.
I know this is not the ideal solution but I bit the bullet and started it up it was a little tappety to start with which was understandable but after a little while it went quiet and has been running, idling and then yesterday driving I got it to change through all gears and up to 100 Km/h with not undue noises and nothing went bang
I'm going to keep an ear on it for now and see what goes on as I said not ideal but is purring like a kitten (famous last words )

What you have done is fine, sometimes the rocker pads are different height and to be honest you would never know until a issue like this occurs.
I had some chev heads machined for screw in rocker studs and everything was fine, until I introduced a paired shaft rocker system (Exhaust/inlet shared the same bearing shaft). I had to make up 16 shims, all at different thicknesses to get the rocker shafts parallel.
Another time I had a pair of heads skimmed on the gasket surface, bloody hell they took off nothing at one end and nearly 40 thuo off the the other, that had me scratching my head for a long time !!!!!!
Engines need everything measured and checked especially if someone else has played around with them previous.
