Random question no2: can you buy a red motor thermostat housing or a top radiator hose that allows an original EK radiator to be used?

My Ek has an original radiator with the 179 red motor. Not sure of the routing but it worked. From memory my housing is not brilliant though, it’s fairly corroded.

I have wondered if you couldn’t use the grey motor one. The thermostats are the same so good chance. You’re welcome to the power steering one I have which may work.

Also I’m pretty sure EH one works, which is probably what Sams is.

Thanks Sam, Clay. I have a new 3 core grey motor radiator and also a pair of 2 and 3 core red motor rads. Thought I'd give the grey one a go so I don't have to butcher the radiator mount stuff on the front. Should be OK for a warm 186s? Need to decide in next day or so 'cause front is going back on in the next few days🤔

Yes I reckon the three core grey will be good and no butchering as you say. If the 186 is out 60/k to 192 even a three core HR Torana radiator may struggle at speed in my experience.

Last bit of major rust gone today. The folded section that runs along under the back window and under the section I was playing with yesterday had rusted away pretty much the full length.

I had been putting it off for months as it is a job to do lying underneath. Anyway today was the day and it all went ok. A slight modification to the original and open at the middle and each end to allow fish oil in and drainage out from now on. Made it in two section because my folder isnt long enough to do the whole piece.
A poor set of pictures but shows the gist.

Mate that looks tricky. Why didn’t you do it when it was on the roti?

Because the access didn't improve when it was on its side and I couldn't get at it all when car was upside down.I made the two pieces so that it was mostly plug welds on the verticals so not too bad.

It's a big rust trap in there, as any water that leaks past any fasteners/ screws for the tonneau must just sit in there and its not painted internally. It is something worth checking because you can't see what state its in unless you crawl in the back. All of my donor options where stuffed.

Not surprised Neil. I'd guess that every ute that's been in the weather will have rust in there. Agree, it's a daunting spot and sooo glad to have that repair behind me (literally and figuratively😀).

Get what your saying about water getting into that area behind the back window. When I replaced my lift a dot studs I made a small gasket washer to underneath the lift a dot posts. Hopeythat will keep the water out.

Keep up the good work.

I've been thinking about that too Stephen. I was also thinking a bit of mastic as an option too. Has to be helpful for this problem however they are sealed.
