Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Bit more playing around before I can see how it idles yet Rob. I’ve only set the dizzy by eye and based on the one I pulled out, being too lazy to do the points. I will pull it out and rotate the shaft before I bung a radiator in it. There are plenty of fumes from oil and dust accumulated over the years so hard to tell blow by at this stage.
I wonder if I could fit later bottom thermo housing if I want to run water cooled inlet?
Cheers

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Clay,
Bottom thermostat housings - it's not as easy as fitting the later housing. The later heads (7429461 for HR and 7437395 for HKTG) have an extra passage drilled in them to suit water-heated inlet manifolds. And it's not as easy as drilling the hole in the front face of a 7420081 either: tried that with my HD and failed.
Depends on whether you're going to have a heater in the ute. If not, you can run the manifold hoses from the back of the cylinder head, through the manifold, to the inlet on the water pump. If you do have a heater, you'll have to use T-pieces. See the first publicity shots of the HD X2 engine bay for how it's connected up.

Dented but solid Phil. It’s had a 12x80mm hole cut on the bottom, for drainage I assume.

Rob
It’s got a poor mans heater which has been plumbed from water pump side inlet to lower thermostat housing. Rear port has temp gauge sender.
Found a 138 red around the corner with the manifolds on but no carb for $80. Also 186 with 202 rocker cover, alternator bracket, flywheel and I think EH sump and a 202. A couple of other blocks. $80 each or $200 the lot.
What I’m thinking is get the 138 and try the exhaust with the EH inlet or run the alloy manifold dry. 138 head would make for pretty high comp, unless it is a low comp head. Don’t know that they did this with the torana. Any thoughts?
Cheers

Or I might patch up the extractors though they’re pretty rusty.

Hi Clay
Yes FC tailgate but it doesn't really matter to me it is so hard to find good tailgates nowdays and Frank(enstein) has already gathered bits from everywhere else so may as well get something from an FC.
I haven't forgotten to have a look for a handle for you mate I am pretty sure that I have a couple spare as I stripped the 3 crap tailgates that I had before I got the good one I was lucky enough to find.
I will PM you when I locate them in amongst all the other stuff.
Neil

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Clay,
A 138 red would make sense to me only if it was a good runner and needed no work done to it, and only if the rego authorities had conniptions about a 186 in an otherwise unmodified FB. But if it's got the manifolds on, then it's worth $80.
Then the EH sump and oil pickup have to be worth $80, and you get a free red motor into the bargain.
An alloy inlet manifold would probably run OK unheated. You'd only have troubles on a freezing winter's morning.
Would not really suggest bolting the 138 red head onto your 186.
If you need to pull a head off, or replace piston rings, then (my opinion only) the time and money would be better spent fixing a grey - just from ease of registration and parts compatibility. But since your subframe's already been modified to take an HD-on radiator, keep the bigger radiator whatever motor you choose to use.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
The eh sump had a big rust hole. I only want the manifolds but can use the block as a dummy for the van set up. I don’t like the radiator mod as I prefer the look of the original unit. I plan to replace the support panels at some stage with some off a rusted subframe I have. It is a rough gas axe job but will do for now with a bit of a tidy up.

If the EH sump is buggered and you arent planning on using it I would be interested in buying the pickup mateErrol62 wrote: Sat Mar 03, 2018 12:07 am The eh sump had a big rust hole. Didn’t end up buying that motor Blacky. Got this 179 manifold instead from my mate old Dudley. it is rusty but intact. Don’t know if I will pull it apart. Maybe just pop it in molasses solution.

The other thing I god from my friend is this the tank is nfg but it is the surround I need. Out of the van I got some body sections from for the EK van. Got some other goodies while I was out north. Most fun I’ve had Saturday morning shopping in quite a while.

Thanks for identifying the head is 179 as per the part number 7420081. My mate in Port Lincoln offered me a HP block, hmmm........
