I have a simple answer to all of this.
If one is not available build one.
Over the years people have built clones/coppies of cars long lost. Or in private collections that will never be seen again.

There are two options, build one with the factory LHD dash. Or do one with an accurate factory mirror image RHD dash.

Over the years I have done my fair share of RHD conversions, and this LHD version.
An FB EK would be an interesting project

It's not cheating in my books..considering the LHD dash is just plain BUTT UGLY from the factory I.M.P.O.
I've seen first hand what Paul can do..& paying a ridiculous price for a rusted O.S. car is dumb...maybe if you could get just parts from an O.S car (entire dash cut, firewall, steering box, pitman & idling arms etc) sent from a wreck & fit it into a good condition local car..that might be the best case scenario...but I doubt it.
If you have seen the dashes Paul has done and the quality of workmanship..well...let's just say I know what way I'd go to get an LHD FB/EK.  (you should see the RHD DeSoto dash he's just finished...it's gawdamn fantastic!! )

Yeah, the LHD dashes were hit pretty hard with the ugly stick weren't they  No doubt Paul could top the factory efforts 8)

I have to also agree that it would be really dumb to want a tatty 'authentic' car over something that could be made today, but it's still what I'd do

You can't build authenticity, just something that resembles it.

I'm guessing anyone chasing a LHD EK (or any LHD Aussie car) would be doing so because of the rarity, uniqueness, and future value of it.

Building one from a RHD car defeats the purpose somewhat.

Alex
locating a genuine LHD factory version is proving extremly hard, so a clone may be the only option.

Cal.
Apply your comment to an American import, the rarest of these today is a RHD version. These are not manufacturer produced but still command extremly good money.

In other parts of the automotive sport, some of the rarest low production cars have totally vanished off the face of the planet. So people produce a copy. And its accepted that its better to have a good replica than nothing at all.

Can someone convince me that Holden with such a short production run set up a line just for L.H.D models.
If I was a production manager I would have just converted some prebuilt ones.
Think of the cost. :)

thing is the typical type of person that would want a LHD version is the type of peanut you see wondering shows picking cars with the wrong washers or split pins and overspray in the wrong area so a custom built LHD would be an absolute NONO :?

Good points, Smooth. But the with the American import, it's a RHD converted car in a RHD country

Building a LHD EK here would be like building a RHD '57 Chev in the US. Though you're probably right, if none exist it's probably worth building one here.

Or a rotary powered EK, like the HJ (or HX) based Mazda Roadpacer, you could call it another 'prototype'
