Or go down to the local Holden dealer and get them to run their diagnostics program they use on commodores maybe? Not sure if you have the spot to plug in the computer they use? Could be a better option maybe...

Hi all,
Been lying low for a while as enthusiam has been non existant.
But GUESS WHAT!!! Finally after a month of the gearbox being out, the old yellow girl has all 4 gears. And not F*#@en before time. I surpose after 4 attempts even blind freddy could eventually get it right.
I must say it is now like a different car to drive.
If I could name these pricks that did the gearbox I would but I won't.
Anyway this time I think they just replaced everything they could with still no idea as to what they were doing.
Then came the bill, just remembering I've already paid $1250 to them for their first attempt, but this time they tried to add another $1750 onto it.
Trying to remain calm, I told the so called mechanic that he could have my gearbox and stick it where the sun don't shine. No way in f*#@en hell I was going to pay $3000 for a gearbox when I could have bought an exchange unit from the local Holden dealer for $2000. After many words he surprisingly dropped $500 off the bill straight away. (Big hearted prick)
Anyway the gearbox is finally back in and the smile has returned to my face as I took it for a drive this afternoon.
Anyway an expensive lesson learned, yet again.
Cheers
Mal

There is other ways of getting them back. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. One good comment can go to a dozen people, one bad can go to 100 people...
Name the bas@#$ds
Well enjoy 4th gear Mal.

Hi Mal,
Great to hear that she is sorted, would have loved to had been a "fly on the wall" when she locked into top gear
. You should drop some subtle hints on who these "pests" are so no one else get bitten by the parasites!!!!
Maybe you should invite them to Bendigo and we can all give 'em a good ol' FBEK Holden "touch up"!!!!!
Keep cruizin' and start enjoying all your HARD WORK!!
cheers, Gaz
PS. sent you a PM.

Hey Mal,
Seriously I cant believe they kept on going with the bill at all.
If they cant fix it then whats with the cost?
Anyway those 4 speeds are great for the highway, and if your electrics will allow you can lock the convereter and get a 5th gear.
Keep on cruising!
Regards Greg

Agree with EK 283.
Rude and also probably not legal for them to quote you a price to reco a transmission and to give it back to you as a recoed trans and give you the bill only to have faulty workmanship in their finished product.
There would have to be a warranty obligation there of some sort and they should fix the problem that they were paid to fix in the first place and not ask you for more dollars.
I guess ATM Malcolm you're probaly just happy to have the headache behind you and to have that missing 4th gear returned.

Hey guys,
Its great to drive now and yes now on the highway you can actually see the revs on the tacho drop when the converter goes into lock up.
I honestly believe they had no idea what was wrong and just replaced everything they could hoping to fix the problem.
As to what they replaced the first time:
GSR Kit
Overrun clutches
Forward clutches
Oil filter
Rear housing bush
Bush Pump Body
Plate - Valve Body Spacer
Converter
Sealant
Freigtht
Cleaning solvents
Environmental levy
Labour - $624.00
Total $1220.65
Second go:
Wiring Harness & L/U Solenoid
Solenoid Force Motor
Valve TCC Regulator
Pan gasket
TCC Apply Valve - PWM only Son.
Rev. Boost V & SLVE
Oil Filter
Valve Body Repair & fit AFL Valve
Freight
Labour $132.00
Total $1247.00
Not to mention freigh I paid over to Gympie and back twice, about $200 in oil and worst of all about a dozen F*@#%n stone chips on my bonnet.
Well, I may go for another cruise.
Mal
So if all this means anything to anybody, let me know.
