Your probably right, thats not a bad idea. But we have already cut the holes and set it in. We used the Chrysler heater because it meshes into the chrysler firewall (already a hole for the motor) but the heater box is large and look up most of the room behind the FB glovebox door. An executive decision was made, and we did it this way, also considering using the glovebox button for a "hazard light switch" . There is still plenty of room to run fresh air and ducting pipes above the heater box, we still have to find somewhere to locate a fuse box as well. I am not saying we make it up as we go along...but close.

Must be winter, not much happening, but I have added Magna tailgate gas struts to the bonnet. They work really well, they take the bonnet up from about 6 inches after releasing the catch. We have made new hinges that cause the back of the bonnet to drop, this approach can only be used with our lowered windscreen, checkout the EK valance panel fits nicely missing the rear of the open bonnet, the FB panel would catch, stroke of luck really as our FB panel was too badly rusted...







now the bonnet is in, the next job is to fill in the back of the bonnet gap with a panel including a cowl air intake.

thanks Scotty, there has been plenty so far, but we only have the really difficult bits to go.....
Lowering the windscreen causes plenty of changes in the front door hinge area, firewall and front gaurds, we are taking time to think about it a bit, so we only have to do it once. (or twice...max )

What made you want to lower it like that when you can buy chopped 3" screens already?

I made a comment on the previous page on a roof chop and sinking the screen, and the basic metod that requires the least amount of modifications. Seeing I have had some experience in this type of modification, and to possibly save you untold work.
The way you have done yours creates so much unneeded work in areas that are usually unaffected. And trying to make it aesthetically correct with the dash sunken where it is will be extremly hard
It could be easier and less work in the long run to cut the dash out and put it back where it should be and make the required mods for fitting an uncut screen. Than to continue down the path you are now on.
But that decision is up to you or the person doing the work.

Nick, where do you buy a 3" chopped screen? is it for a roof with canted screen posts or a widened roof?

I read your previous post on this matter, I choose not to reply because to it because it does not really apply to this car. We have chosen to cut the holden firewall out altogether and use the chrysler firewall and floor,tunnel,tortion suspension,front-end and engine mounts (The whole thing). We have to figure out the technical engineering issues as we go, we have nearly done it, just a few complex problems to solve around the front as discussed earlier, but I am sure we will overcome them. And yes we are doing all the work our selves. We have guys on the team with experience in custom and racing cars going back 30 years, for example the "A" frame solution for the front gaurds is a typical race car idea. You will see progress on here as we go, we are slow because we only spend one weekend a month on it. This is not for everybody, but I hope you don't mind seeing something a little different. As I said earlier MILDFB wont be like any other chop job.

There are advantages and disadvantages, the roof was lowered, but not altered, so the pillers had to be realigned ( more angle) the windscreen is standard, but the rear station wagon windows are a different shape now and will have to be made. It's alot of fun and I am learning as we go from the masters, and that was one of my aimes.

I've been told by a few people that you can buy 3" chopped screens for FB/EK. I haven't actually looked into it, so if thats not the case then my bad.

who needs a chopped windscreen anyhow....., just lower the dash. A trial fit to see what it looks like..




We are still working on the cowl induction system, and filling in all the holes. It's been a tad wet lately in VIC.
