Streetable: a camshaft with sufficient duration to make old blokes grin at the lumpy idle, and make millennials think the car has a fuel problem. Starts without ether but may require swearing on a cold morning. Marked unburnt fuel smell at idle (from increased overlap) will linger on clothes until washed. This may cause accusations of “you smell like old cars, Dad”. Overlap may cause occasional carburettor backfiring at idle, which may remove eyebrows if peering down the carb throat. Slightly sluggish below 2000rpm, but not sluggish enough to make the owner seek an 8000rpm Hydramatic torque converter. Acceptable justification for a Clive, McGee or Wade Cams window sticker. See also “stock cam”, “lumpy cam”, “3/4 race” and “pig to drive”.

Well after months of putting it off and a bumpy run home from the Xmas party I finally reset the tappet clearance and installed the HEI dizzy
A marked improvement, revs out nicely
Will hide the module when I tidy up the engine bay
Planned a quick tune, but Blacky and Shahni showed up so downed tools and drank beer
Dizzy is one of Paul Calders

I bought a similar looking HEI from Paul Calder.
Looking forward to building my engine and firing it up with the new dizzy.

Pulled the FJ front plate off today and it has the second hole below the cam ? Looks too neat to have been drilled
Can’t see any signs of leakage so the FC plate is going in
Just waiting on new gaskets
Not sure on the cam grind but I’ll put it back in for now and see how it runs
