Yes mate, I did these on Leroy. Was fiddly with the column in place, should be easy for you.

Clay,

My take on the steering box lubrication problem: take the top over off, and fill the box with moly grease. And while you've got such good access to the steering box, pop the sector shaft out, remove the felt oil "seal" and retainer, and whack in a quality oil seal - 1.00" ID x 1.5" (?) OD x 0.25" deep should be just about perfect.

Thanks for the input as always Rob. I was wondering when someone would confirm on the moly. Seal is a good idea.

I happened to be staying in Port Augusta Sunday night and had my eye out for your FX. I’m up there again next Thursday till Monday if your coming back that way. I recommend front bar Ian’s Western Hotel for value counter meals. It’s just before the bridge on the fight coming from Perth. Puma Roadhouse on the southern outskirts is a brekky must.
Cheers

Clay,

OK . . . I was thinking of giving you a call from Port Augusta when we got there, just in case . . . should've.
We stayed at the Majestic Oasis, right next to Woolies, and had one of the units that faced the Hino dealer.

I'm planning on leaving Perth on the 13th, so I'm guessing Ceduna or Streaky Bay on the 16th (and b.t.w. I'm very impressed with the Foreshore Hotel/Motel), Cowell or Whyalla on the 17th (would be even better if the Lucky Bay-Wallaroo ferry was actually running), and Barossa/Burra/Riverland/Adelaide Hills on the 18th. My travel plans are quite flexible, as you can see . . .

How’s the humpy going Rob? This is running the rebuilt motor we lifted out of the boot of your FC together, yes?

Clay,

Yes. Previously I'd avoided Ceduna in favour of Streaky Bay, but the Foreshore tips the scales back towards Ceduna.

Joe,

I think you're right. I think that was the black car's motor, but I also have another grey awaiting assembly. Things went out of whack when I came off my bike on the bloody lethal Fiddens Wharf Road/Lady Game Drive roundabout in early August and busted my pelvis. Six weeks of sick leave, a token week back at work, and now four weeks of long service leave.

Anyway, the car: sweet as a nut. Much quieter, and with a 3.55 rebuilt by Hornsby Diffs, can average 100 km/h for hours at a stretch. I just drove, all the way to Perth. It went through about two litres of oil, but that's what it used to do. Oil's cheap. It goes about as far on fuel as it used to, according to the odometer, and when I factor in the ~8% error, I get about 32 mpg, which isn't entirely shabby.
