great work Malcolm - are you absolutely sure you want to be employed by the Qld "fenders" - I think people would block your driveway with work by what we see of your "standard"............

I can appreciate however, that this is a passion - when it becomes "work" we tend to become reluctant. I only do my own stuff, unless someone is stuck - I always offer to show or teach but am extremely hesitant to have anything left for me to finish - I have enjoyed sharing the passion in this over many year - I do not consider myself anywhere near your standard but am always sensitive to learn of new/improved technique/products.

With respect to manufacturer fitting standards -my r/hs is untouched - there are cumbersome and uneven gaps around those doors - the l/hs ones I refitted back in around 2003/04 after spending 3 months on each - and am embarrassed to state that I have done an even worse job in fitting - think I lost the plot when the rear one rolled off a support whilst I was doing the final block down before cutting - broke the top corner of the frame and put a great dent into the lower outer half just near the lower hinge - had to put it on to go on holidays - with only 1 day to get the boat ready and pack............ haven't been back to the problem - the stainless trim is also mis-aligned - runs up hill - you'll see..........

Hey Rosco,

I to have been having trouble with my side trim. The original is like a dogs hind leg as far as being straight along the car. I will have to play more with it when I get the front guards on. Hopefully I can get it somewhere straight.

Before I started my business many years ago, I used to do up cars at my parents place, that I enjoyed emensley. But it is as you say, when it becomes work it all turns to crap. Even when I had my business I never enjoyed doing up a car as much as I have enjoyed doing the FB. The only thing that is spoiling this one is the fact that I have set myself a deadline.(Yamba) I get so worried that it won't be finished in time but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I just hope its not a train coming.

You're in like Flynn, Malcolm - I'm more worried mine won't be ready - blocked back that inner rear end panel up until 23:00 last night - now have sanded back the floor of the luggage compartment - these "little" jobs I start "grow"...............

That trim can be a proverbial.......! I haven't had a lot to do with it but have picked up a few "tips" I will employ when I go back into "trimmer" mode.

I intend to POR the rear of the piece to prevent scratching of the duco - I already use stainless clips I fabricated and use the nylon mounting clips as supplied by B"ill Thomson auto rubbers - pity I didn't know how they "worked" when I fitted them - stupid filed them down for a "clip on" fit - they are intended to be "turned" into position from within the door - as mentioned I will re-visit that somewhere when I re-do the rear l/hs door.........

I know stainless can be bent when subjected heavily to the buff - I did that to my first stainless door scuff plate - I had to "work" the obverse side to get the "bend" our again - something to consider.

You're so close to giving this a final wash Malcolm, I'd love to see the joy on your face when the "big" jobs you think you have yet to do are down to polishing wheel nuts etc................ step back and take a look at the forest - maybe you can't see it for all the trees you think you still have to "clear"

- easy for me to say - I'm down here and not watching the hours you're putting in - trust me, I'm putting in some pretty big ones - but they are self committed..................

73 sleeps - you probably only need a third of those.................

you're there, Malcolm...... welcome aboard!

Hey Mal,
What the hell are you going to do when your finished???????????
Im just wondering is this the reason many of us just don't knuckle down and finish anything we start? (cause we'd be lost if we had nothing to do)

The car is absolutely awesome well done.

I hope you take the time and tune it on a dyno, Would be interested to see the power output.

Mate will make a big effort to come and see you at Yamba. ( Hey guys how about moving the tracks so the train cant come! )

Regards Greg
So many cars so little time!

Greg - a lot easier just to stop the train - you only have to stop one - those following can't put the blinker on or jump over the top...........

Agree - Malcolm is going to have a lot of time to polish the air in the tyres - soon.........

Hope the paint flows well, Malcolm - can't wait to hear of your success - just check that compressor again.............

Hi guys,

Hey RB You're spot on, I can't wait to be drivin this thing and yes, on the weekends I will be doing jack shit. The
missus has told me that if I even look at another car it will have to be something I can sleep in.

Anyway, today I got the front guards and a couple of other small things painted, and I'm happy with that.
Also, before closing the shed for the night I painted in the back of the guards with black and bolted on
a couple of more side trims.

Guards hung and ready for colour

Guards with colour on. Finished painting at about 10am

Finally black painted in the back

Just a couple of pickies of the car and the side trims todate.

Tomorrow should see the guards buffed and hopefully fitted (all going well)

Hi guys,

Well the end of another weekend and 1 week left of holidays.
As hoped, today I got the front guards buffed and finally fitted. I'm glad I trial fitted everything up prior
to painting. Even though I did that the front was still shit to fit. As per usual 1 side took half
the day and other side took about an hour. Anyway in the end it turned out OK.

A few more pickies of where I'm at with the front fitted. Now, to fit up the grill and lights and so forth.

I'm hoping the front will come down about another 2 inches when everything is fitted up.
