Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
You have read my mind Clay, going to check to see if any bog where they were welded and then look into the ceramic chrome coating thingy. Can with all the bumper bar irons which I didn't have, bonus

Took the sander to one of the bumpers where it has been welded up, seems to have a pretty heavy layer of bog but looked like it’s been done well.
Started welding the roof on fully did the D pillars and passenger side B pillar and of course ran out of gas
Have been working on the subchassis as well, battery area like all of them Try to get some more gas today and see how I go

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Got some gas yesterday 3 pillars left to go, they will all need a little body work.
I have a few bits of old subchassis’s trying to make the patch out of bits, it’ll be a bit of a jigsaw but I’ll make it look ok in the end

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Finished welding in the other 3 pillars, the last one was the drivers side B pillar by the time I got it done I was stiffed so called it Beer O Clock, just need to clean up the welds on it and call it done.
Received the new Ali radiator yesterday, come with a fan as well for $189, now I have it I can modify the front of the subchassis to fit the radiator after repairs to the battery area

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Great progress Neil,
Just curious did you brace the joins on the inside of your pillars ?
I’ve always considered doing a roof chop this way but after seeing Blacky's awesome job I am now thinking on a different approach.

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Hi Greg, we didn’t brace inside the pillars, I followed my old panel beaters advise “ this is how we did it back in the day”
and trust me there is a way I weld there is plenty of it in there

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Had fitted my upper tailgate while changing the roof so that we could check alignment after the new roof was tacked, found we couldn't get it to shut properly without forcing it shut the last bit.
After having a good look at it we found that it is bent on both sides up towards the top, looks like it has been pushed up and back maybe without the struts connected and bent back towards the roof.
Cookie, one of the club members was going to EK Mart so I was able to get a straight one from the proprietor the esteemed Mr Black, once again EK Mart saves the day

It was one of the few salvageable? panels on a wagon up at Cobar, as well as a pair of demister vents. My mate reckoned I should grab it, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered.

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon
Started cleaning up the EK Mart upper tailgate, can’t believe how thick the red oxide is, I thought it was thick on the roof, it’s a wonder these things ever rusted al all
Bit of rust converter and move on to do the rest of it
