Hi Blacky,
Funny you should ask that cause I measured it today for the first time, it was pretty rough no wheel alignment yet but around 1400mm.( wheel mounting face to face )
Regards Greg
Thanks mate, will check it against a modded HR front - I am in 2 minds which way to go for the 2 door EK
a mate had an EH ute with a 308 had a modified HR front that was pretty good, he changed to a torana front and said he would never bother with a HR front again he's currently doing an EH wagon and doing the torana front again

Yeah I have a HR front with a Cortina rack like Bumpars dads FB which drives nice + easy to fit OR go through all the pissing around to fit a Torana front , still havent decided which way to go .........

dammit, that sucks Greg!
I imagine you've tried everything to make it fit the way it is... is the high volume sump specced for a reason? Are you planning on racing this car like the Stude?
Racing, Racing you say ? well hell yeah !!!!!!!!! but not this one, just the occasional burnout to keep my heart going ! I love revving a chev as well so oil is king !!!!!

So I have 3 sumps right The winged one that is r/h dipstick with the one piece rear main seal, doesn't fit in because of my pipe work.
I grab sump # 2 and its r/h dipstick but for a 2 piece rear main and that area is to small so once again no fit mate, and # 3 is l/h dip stick shit I give up so back on the net I go.
Whilst all this is happening I'm moving my race car back and forward and you guessed it the starter fries F*$@%&*(&^$#$^%&&* !!
Anyway the motor is in but has to come out again when the new sump arrives, I jumped on the front end and it feels nice and tight and I reckon the torrie front will out perform the HR but time will tell !!
No more this week end I've had enough.

Bloody hell this car is doing my head in !!
I dont think I can say any words beginning with F as I've worn that part of my mouth out.
So my original design extractors went below the torana outriggers but when I moved the front end caster the outriggers came
with it 30mm lower as a matter of fact and that means extractors now dont fit F*%#%^&&((*&^^^ !!!!!
Chop chop grind grind weld weld you all know how this goes.
Pipes now go inside the outriggers and the frame so this means no room for the oil filter or starter removal. I ended up making a removeable section on the drivers side and will now use a remote oil filter on the passanger side. In actual fact the exhaust is
now neater and doesnt hang as low. Will I everfinish this bloody thing !!

Last shot is the gap where my oil lines will come through, starting to run out of these gaps, ha ha ha
This has taken me over a month with the motor in and out several times but its done now, off to the ceramic coaters again
tomorrow and no looking back now, will pull my finger out this summer with the paint and hopefully some good news progress.

I have to admire your perseverance fellah. Try modifying the f word slightly for variety. May help with getting your mouth around it.

Another few hours in the shed and I have installed my remote oil filter.
Its the only place I can put it cause there just isn't any room, unless I run 100kms of hose.
I will probably have to put a guard to protect it from the road stones etc.
The future oil changes should be a breeze and this something that made me put it in this spot.
With the torana front there is minimal spare space, especially with the exhaust, I just hope this is all worth it ?????

I'm seeing a lot of really great attention to detail here Greg, it will be worth the effort for sure
My recent experience of making up a bunch of stuff to marry the L76 & 4 speed auto to my brother's Impala was mostly positive - the things that had to be fabricated, then later removed and re-imagined, sometimes a few times... all worked out perfectly once it hit the road. The only things that went slightly awry were the smaller details that we thought DIDN'T need special attention, but were (thankfully) easy to remedy after the fact. Looks to me like you're locking everything down one task at a time and I'm digging it.
Hey also, I have next Saturday (ie: not tomorrow) set aside to cruise my ute up to visit my bro in Hornsby and get some miles into the Grey - will you be home for visit?
Cheers Joe
