Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Noisy bloody things as I expected. I don’t think I will put up with them for very long. I have them as far back as I can, but the shock mounts limit that. The bump stop rubbers contact the body just forward of the front bush. I would rather they contact on the spring end, which would probably be quieter. At the moment the rubbers have about 10mm clearance at rest, which seems about right. They only make a noise over bumps when the spring compresses.
But hell I like the look….

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Little bit big on the gap. Aim for 1/4" gap (6mm). Can come down to no-gap for a race vehicle, though it can feel twitchy (less so if you have rubber rather than a urethane bushing set). The smaller gap may help quieten them down.

Rebuilt distributor went in. Set to 12 degrees initial, and the light shows it rock steady. The other three dissys all jumped around to varying degrees. Total advance at 4000, with 12 initial is supposedly 34, mechanical. I’ve only had it up to 3000 so far, but it seems good. Haven’t played with the tramp rods yet, as I’ve been dishwasher mechanicing, but I’m getting used to the noise.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Although I love the look of those tramp rods I wince at the thought of a wide open throttle clutch dump. I have the vision of the banjo and Mr puniverse axles strewn all over the road and believe it or not the diff oil smell in the nostrils has been reactivated as I type !!!!
For minimal noise I think the only choice of aid would be an adaptation of the fraud XB radius rods, they have a large rubber bush that allows different planes of movememt with the leaf springs and were quite effective i believe.
My caltracts are a bit noisy, but they do work a treat, i can plant it and the car just hooks up and goes even with the skinny 215 tyres.
Anyway Clay its easy to see you are having fun with that car.
