Hi all,

Once again nearly the end of another weekend, and back to work tomorrow night.
Another productive day in the shed.
Today I got the rear quaters and sills painted, with that done makes the body finished and ready for some stuff
to be put back in.



Also gave the inside a coat of bitumen based sound deadner to tidy things up in there and for a bit more insulation.



Then I fitted the subframes. Thats one big piece out the road, back on the car, freeing up a bit of room.
I was lucky enough to save the front guard rubbers that insulate
the guard from the subframe, as they were in pretty good nick for originals.




Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the diff, front end and steering all back in. (maybe)

Looking good there malcolm, just wondering, do you not bother painting the inside wheel arches and above the doors because they will be covered anyway? I want to know for myself, so I dont wast paint, Trev .

Thanks guys for the kind words, and yes I very happy with how its coming along.
Will be no show car but for a 2pack in the shed job I'm wrapped.

through past experiences, I've found that glue won't stick to
that bitumen crap so where stuff has to be glued to it I leave
with just a paint finish.

I do agree with you about the chrome, I sat the fuel cap in place
to see how it looked, the yellow against the chrome
I thought it looked quite good. I'm sure clarks would have something
that you could use for the guard rubbers. After all you don't see it.

a question about ya paint job .. did u apply clear coat ?
and how many coats of 2 pak do u apply .. cos she looks sweet

Hey Dave,

No clear just colour, one thing I was told many years ago when 2 pack first came out, if you get any shit in it, cut it out and buff it first thing the next day while its still soft. This does work, only thing you do loose a little of the gloss but its quite easy to buff up again when fully dried and then it holds its gloss no problems. This is the process I'm using on the whole car.

I gave it 3 coats to ensure coverage (not to wet) then a double header to finish.
I'm afraid I'm one that like a good coat of paint on a car, not just the 2 coats like all the tools in shops out here reacons they do and get away with.

Still got a fair way to go but I think its back is broken.

Now you can do the midnight runs with the mechanical stuff, I reckon another 4 weeks and you'll be very close.

This vehicle is a credit to you - don't go feigning us to believe it could be better - we're all in for a treat in June.........

I love this stage you are at - all that work, each piece as it goes on just makes all the effort so worthwhile - even if our nerves get a bit frayed with all that fresh unmarked paint - you know the drill....... nudist and barb wire fences etc................

A lesser person would deliberately scratch something just to make it less devastating during re-assembly.............. we don't follow that theme, do we ?

I am really looking forward to you taking me over your pride in Yamba.... as I know most others who have followed your progress will undoubtedly do likewise........

in my FB on the street somewhere.

4 weeks nice thought but a bit ambitous I think.

Well, didn't get as much done as I was hoping today but still, moving
in the right direction. Putting a car back to gether is like Christmas
all over again, you get to open up and play with all the things
that you've had wrapped up for the last 12 months.

Got all the rear end in and fitted up with brakes, pipes and
handbrake cable, fuel pipes and battery cable in.







Not sure yet weather I'll be keeping the lowering blocks in at this
stage. It just depends on how it sits when it gets all the weight back
in it and it all settles down.

Then fitted up the front crossmember.





When the inside floor dries a bit harder, I'll fit up all the wiring
before I put the motor and box back in. Went to the trimmers
today and have picked out the material for the interior. Will be
dropping in all that stuff next week.

Gosh Malcolm,
you're not mucking around - I can't get anywhere near that much done in a week - you've done this in one day....................
