Can't take credit for this as it is pretty much pure fluke. All week I've been away for work I've been pondering the handbrake setup and it turns out to fit perfectly in the original position.
I can even use the original bolt holes.
Yet to check speedo cable clearence however.
This is all procrastinating to put off welding upside-down under the car.

Yer I had second thoughts about that Neil.
Another job completed. Ain't coming out now.
What ever it is in this stuff, it took the paint off the booster like thinners wouldn't.
Wiring out now.
Painted a few bits.
next job throttle cable.

Toluene, and various forms of acetone.

It's good shit. Boosts octane apparently.
Quick refresh of the engine bay.

Toluene has an octane (RON) of 121. Not so great for your kidneys or liver though.

Thanks mate. I’ll be sure and limit my intake. Those organs are already spoken for it seems.
I have got the paint off ok but still trying to remove what looks like dirt or oxidation, without destroying the dichromate finish. I think I may be on a hiding to nowhere unless anyone has a suggestion. I’m not game to use scotchbrite or other abrasive as I’m afraid it will take off the dichromate. May have to paint it I suppose.

I knew some blokes who did a similar thing in a Suzuki SJ 4WD. Must have been the world's fastest Suzie for all of four minutes

Damn shame i got rid of that 149 head and side pipe. Does it give you flames out the exhaust?

No flames from the Suzuki, but suspect I will get flames from the FED headers.
Have got a local 'zorst mob making up a set of stainless zoomie headers for the Repco head

New seats
just kidding
They're for Raffs Suby, though I couldn't help thinking they would look ok and perform great in the ute. No buckets, let alone high backs.
Bit of a stall on the column as I had to paint up a honey pot so I can fit prior to horn and indicator loom. Don't want to be installing them with the column in the car. Not ideal painting weather, a bit humid, but done outside with some sun on it good enough.
Column was supplied painted black and can stay that colour so honeypot to match. Briefly considered bare metal and polishing it. Next time.
Meanwhile I mated up the new clutch driven plate, thrust bearing and gearbox. This after rolling th box on side and filling via funnel, 2.55 litres, 20% Morey's additive. Taking the slight risk of spillage rather than the inevitable occurrence filing in car.

I used to hate topping up gearbox oil. The stuff reeks - Number One Son refers to is as Liquid Ass. I used to spill as much oil as I got in.
Bought one of these from Supercheap. They screw into most off-the-shelf 1L or 5L plastic oil containers. No more mess. Makes ATF easy to transfer down the long dip tube too.

Now I just need to get Number One Son to return the diff oil and pump
