XU-1 centre caps. I had to delete the front grease caps and clearance the split pin, but they fit. Magnums are off for a polished and detail before nats.Image

Still fiddling with tune, as engine still bogging at fast idle it seems. All plugs sooty black when removed directly after. Dissy cap, rotor and leads all good. I leaned out the base idle considerably and running much better but still missing at low revs here and there. Open throttle is good.

Ran down to Middleton and back through Victa. Adjusted idle speed. I shortened the idle speed screws slightly with the grinder, tidy up with scribe, so they should hold position better now with more spring tension.

Front bowl was low! I put this down to when the back needle and seat was playing up. I first tried adjusting the float, then swapped it to the front, then fixed needle and seat.

Reset front bowl heights to 16mm, matching rear. Reset base mixture to 3/4 turns out. Still bogging when warmed up.

Clay did you install the venturi restrictors in your twins?

I've got a set at home if you want a loan to trial them.

OK, so 1 3/32" venturis.

For the "bog at off idle", I'm guessing that the acceleration from idle is OK (accelerator pump is working), but if you are rolling along (say 1st to second gear change) that it is bogging?

Assume the timing is OK, both at idle and at fast idle (run a timing light over it, bring revs up and make sure advance is not a bit slow in coming on).

If that's the case, it could well be the idle transition holes are blocked. Would need a fine copper strand extracted from some wiring, bent at one end, and gently probe the holes to see if they are clear.

Cheers,
Harv

Vacuum leaks may also contribute to bogging or popping,

Make sure you have none especially around the booster if you run one.

Thanks fellas. Yes pedal application results in instant acceleration from idle. Just with throttle cracked it is missing randomly, ie not a
a particular cylinder. Full clean out is next on the agenda when I can garner the enthusiasm, but I will check fast idle timing first, snd vacuum leaks.

Meanwhile getting ready to tow the 6x4, I need a tongue on my tow bar. The mounting surface slopes up at the rear so I have a tongue which kicks down flat. It didn’t have any lugs to attach the safety chain so I cut one off another tongue and welded it on. Painted up with cold galv, looks good. Only I welded the lug on the wrong side.
