Looking good buddy! Im glad to see you have thought about driving the car. Its real easy to loose the plot and detail the under carriage and in my opinion waste thousands of hours.
What you have done is exactly what im going to do but I might paint mine the same colour as the car (just for some practice with the paint).
Just a question regarding a mask, what do you need for 2 pack ?
I know you want to get to YAMBA but dont rush it cause you might get dissapointed or bugger something up!
Anyway your screaming and its looking real good.

You must just about have some update pickies of your car for us too hey.

Mate regarding mask, I went to the local work stuff supplier and told them what I was painting and they advised exactly what I needed to keep them nasty iso-cyanates out of the system. Of course an air fed mask is the absolute best option.
Make sure you get a pair of disposable painters overalls too.

I'd love to learn 2K but we live in suburbia and I would feel a bit selfish sending all that stuff over the fence.............

Bad enough when I open the doors with acrylic - have had it so "blue" in there, I could barely see.

I remember opening up after a big shoot to watch the blue cloud run along the ground up, over and looked like down the other side of the fence next door - remember the washing was on the line - didn't hear any more of it..........
Acrylic dries very quickly (too damned fast sometimes!) so it probably just dusted off - if it was noticed at all........

Enamel however, for the diff etc - had a bad habit of sticking to everything else in the garage - that stuff is a pain to remove once it hardens.........

I wonder if it is worth mentioning eye protection - for 2K............. I'm sure you must all think I'm a bit over the top with my fear of this stuff........

Hi guys, well the end of my 5 days off and I'm happy with what I've done in the shed . Actually a bit glad to
go back to work for a break.
As I had hoped I got the subframes, diff, all front & steering bits and brake stuff painted as well as the fuel tank.

I decided to keep with the black subframes as I want to keep the car
as original as possible









I also got the firewall, dash and door openings all rubbed down,
seam sealed and ready for some topcoat next weekend.
(all going well)

malcom, been following this thread for a while, mate it seems like one hell of a build, with quailty and care.

I love the rear gaurd moulds, been thinking of givin rosie the flash kit ive got, but im not convinced it will be a wise use of such rare stuff. Im thinking that you have givin me inspiration with your nifty creation, i realise that fb upper moulds on the rear gaurds, what have you used to create the arch? is it an upper door on? or something of a later model?

The curve on the rear door moulds is the original FB top front door mould piece, with the contour of the center mould cut into it.
Overiders are at the chrome platers.

I don't know who is keener to see your car running - you or us...........

Does this mean your not going to body deaden the outside of the subframe front and up in the guards ?
I was thinking this area still cops the stones and road muck.
How did you prep the tank for paint ?

I guess another 4-6 weeks and you would be close to finishing.

I did think about doing the outer subframes but , just decided on only doing under the guards with the stoneguard and painting it the same as the floor. Also going to stoneguard the front of the door pillar (under guard section) where it will cop a bit of a caining as well.
With the tank I just took it back to bare metal, etch primed it and did a wet on wet with 2 coats of primer, let it dry for about 45 minutes then 3 coats of the black 2pack straight over it.

Colour is final as paint is ordered and will be picking it up tomorrow. Hoping for a good weekend to get some painting done.
