Believe me it is flooding. How, I don’t know. Comes and goes.

Thanks Harv. First symptom is staggering idle as rear carb fills with liquid fuel, then within seconds starts leaking from under front of bowl where plugs and throttle shaft are.

Ok then it has to be around needle and seat and float. Don't suppose those fancy new pipes you made are stopping the needle from seating?
Float fulcrum pin is not binding on float hinge?
Float is not binding on body ?
Float tab not got a burr that's catching on back of needle?
No to all that, then ditch float and pin and needle and seat and start again

About 10 posts back I eliminated needle and seat by swapping front and rear.

Yes, so what about your pipe into that one? That pipe has remained the same.

Nothing wrong with the pipe. Seats nice and square. Tube nut engages seat and screws in easily. If anything it is the front pipe that doesn’t seat as well, but hard to see how this could affect function of the valve. Thanks for the thoughts.
I will run it top off again, then replace float, pin and spring with one from the old carb, which is proven.

Yes. Bump up the idle helps, which I might do on Wednesday. Currently got it idling nicely @ 500rpm.

From memory the pin when seated comes out into the pipe seat side. If there was an obstruction it could stop the needle from seating. Just a thought.

Here is a picture showing otherwise. This is a black neoprene or what ever tip. The flare can't interfere with it unless it is obviously distorted to the point that you couldn't engage the thread, which it is not. Thanks f or your thoughts though.

Is that a photo of a random spare-parts carb, or one of the X2 carbs off the car? Looks to be 1 1/32" venturi... the X2s should be 1 3/32”.
(... and hurry up and swap the floats will ya? The suspense is killing me

).
Cheers,
Harv

Running with the filter off I couldn't see where the fuel is escaping from the float bowl. It isn't the upper vent tube was as much as I could determine.
I took the air horn off yet again and everything looks ok. If anything float sitting a bit low engaging the back of the needle.
I swapped the float and pin with ones from my old jug, knowing it never flooded. Ran for 5 minutes with no flooding. Put air horn back on and flooded after one minute again. Bang head against wall. Get bottle vodka. Take off lid. Throw away lid. Drink bottle of vodka. Try again.
