Lady behind trailer is thinking…….. glad to see the back of that project Now I can get my car in the shed!

Looks pretty honest car, spottie still in the roof and bonnet bent up in back corner. Spottie, HQ mirror and visor were gone when I got it. HK rims on back. Should have kept them.

Front rims went down to see Mandy this arvo to get the taller tyres put on.

Put the taller tyres on front which I much prefer. Went for a decent blat and hardly rubbed. Driving great. Got a bit sideways powering on around the big roundabout at Aldinga. Got home and let it idle in the carport. Flooded rear carb after one minute. Might try swapping the needle and seat valves around.

Hi Clay, looks good.

Frustrating - but yeah probably needle and seat.. if you swap the needles and seats and then the rear one still floods, I'd make sure the float travels freely and look at the angle of the float tab as it pushes the needle when the float comes up.

Yep that’ll be my process Patrick. It’s funny, I could sense it starting to flood when I was sitting waiting to turn right in a queue. Just gave it a few good revs before it stalled. Funny how the inside rear tyre always seems to complain a bit on right hand corners. Need a LSD.

Wasn't the needle and seat. Opened up the float looked a bit crooked so straightened it up. Then ran it with the rear air horn off while fuel splashed everywhere. Adjusted to about 16mm from top surface and ran fine.

New bonnet bar on.

Got me buggered now. Still flooding. Will have to go back to the carb guy I suppose. Inspection booked for Wednesday.

what fuel pump are you using? maybe its got endless pressure?

Hi Clay, did you swap the needles and seats or only adjust the position of the float? Patrick

Suggest:

a) swap needle and seats front/rear. If it floods the front carb, then its a crook needle/seat. ​If the problem remains, then that is not the drama.
The viton tip ones are pretty forgiving, but the old brass/brass ones less so.

b) swap floats and float pins front/rear. Could be a sticky float pin, or an incredibly sloppy pin/float (especially if the float looked cockeyed). If the problem remains, then that is not the drama.

c) make sure the float clip is not hanging up the float as it falls (preventing it rising).

d) recheck float levels are 5/8-11/16” from float bowl top at idle.

e) could be an internal blockage. It would not be the first carb I have seen overhauled by a reputable mob, blasted, and left full of grit. Probably not idle system (sounds like it was OK parked, but flooded again when driven ?), perhaps main jets. Pull main jet plugs, pull main jets, check for blockage and blow through main discharge jet into carb throat via rubber tube.

e) could be fuel pressure, but unlikely (should flood both carbs).

I eliminated needle and seat thanks Patrick and Harv. The float seems perfectly free, but willing to try anything at this stage. I will substitute float parts next.

How can it be flooding Clay if you had top off and it wasn't? There can't be too many options for " flooding" other than fuel leaking past needle and seat or a faulty float mechanism. Is there a crack in the body somewhere? Is fuel flooding in the throttle body or leaking out of carby onto outside ?

Could also be crappily-seated plug washers (the little copper ones) under the bowl (or an absence of the washers, or the old washer was never picked out of the carb body). It can make fuel dribble back under and appear near the throttle shaft. Unlikely though.
