Hi Clay,

I think you have played around with wheels and tyres to much !!!

Surely by now, the focus should be on the other lump of steel you have tucked away !!!!! :wink34: :wink34: :wink34:

Yes I hear you Greg. Nearly done. I will have a sensible set of steelies soon. Should be ok for inspection then.

Thanks Clint. I ended up leaving the tabs intact but welding right in to the corners. 99.5mm backspace for p11 offset. Provides clearance for weights and 1402mm track.

Sounds like you have it sorted. How did you go running it true and welding do you use a trailer hub or something.

Just clamp one straightedge right angle to another with couple small multi grips at desired backspace. Tippy tap with hammer and drift until just touching at four quadrants. Four tac welds, then spin on front hub with axle stand touching rim edge. Weld up. Recheck and +/- 0.1mm good enough I reckon. Good penetration with welds showing on tyre side of rim.

Weld done mate that's a good effort and tolerance. I may try it on a stock rim for practice for future rims.

Thanks Clint. Though I’m confident in the strength of my welding it is a bit rough in places, down to vision, and also an issue with irregular wire feed. Some tidying up with the grinder is on the cards, before prep and paint with Epotec etch prime and jet black urethane.

Ive run out of citric acid crystal and had a hogshead of molasses for years so decided to try it out. Rim centres still have a bit of rust in difficult spots so in they went. I should have got to this before i welded the outer on but you know me, captain arseabout. Smell reminds me of home brew stout I used to make.Image

Nice one mate. What's the process with molasses, I'm interested.

Clay
I like the caps, sets the wheels off nicely  I have used the molasses brew as well, did 7 parts water to 1 part molasses, worked pretty well.

Haven't used it before so bit of an experiment. Diluted about 10 parts water to one molasses in my green waste bin. The only way organic waste leaves my place is smoke or when the septic gets pumped out. So may as well put it to use.

I will leave the rims soaking for the week and see what comes out. Might put a few other bits in tomorrow as well.
