I guess you need that to light the fire Patrick, although if it were me it would be going 24/7, and soon will be no doubt. Right now though it’s still Indian summer, with 23C forecast. Should be good for spraying rocket red mid arvo.

How many did you torque up to 48 ? I would be inclined to replace all of them , if one broke then the integrity of the others would be questionable ? A hell of a lot easier/cheaper to replace them now rather have another fail halfway across the Hay plain ???

Clay if you have a full set from the 149 block then I recon Blacky has the right of it, the ones you have over tensioned are now stretched and in my experience when you over stretch they do lose tensile strength. You don't want to go through all of this work just to mess up your new engine for the sake of maybe an hour.

I hear you boys. The failure occurred on the second nut of the third cylinder. I will pop the sump and replace the suspect five I suppose.

Good call mate, be interesting to get the ones you pulled out crack tested or measured for stretch and see where they were.

CBF Blacky. Two weeks to get her running for the trip.

I knocked the balancer to about resistance, then put the water pump and pulley on. They seem to line up pretty well, so I’ll put the alternator on and compare again.

Good work Clay!! My advice here is make sure you get the cam bedding in correct and make sure you put a good zinc additive in it and try and prime the oil pump as good as possible... I like to use an accumulator but you can make a gravity fed set up as well if you patient...I’m sure you will be all over it

Thanks Glen. I filled the pump with Morey’s stabiliser but most of it ran out. Using Penrite premium 15w40 which has a zinc additive in it. Would you add something else?

Will crank plugs out, filter off till oil comes. Fill filter and fit then keep cranking with truck battery. See if I can get oil up the pushrods before I let it fire.

Last time I did a cam and lifter change I ran it straight up to 2k and left it there for 20 minutes, no load. Will need to get the timing right first, which I will do before I pit the radiator in so I can see the damper.

I would probably use pen rite running in oil as it has no friction modification in it which is better for bedding in your rings and definitely a bottle of crow cams bedding in additive.. I have a few bottles at home if ya want one

Thanks for the offer. If there is nowhere local I can get it may take you up.

Asked on GMH torrie forum and nobody volunteered any info. Too busy aweing at auction prices and bagging each other.

I got the Penrith because it has the ZDDP additive and is straight mineral.

You must be on this 24/7 Clay. Great progress, very fast😀. I keep seeing parts on Gumtree from Willunga- only thing I haven't seen is kitchen sink!
