here another pic i just thought of .. its the one in my torana that has the short vl and short vn axles in it .... its fairly easy to see the offset ... as for vibrations etc i've done about 15,000kms in the car since putting the diff in and i haven't got any vibration issues or uni issues!
i'd love you know the length of an earlier model commodore diff, its obviously narrower than the VN and maybe even narrower than the VL ... if thats the case then it might be worth looking out for a VK Borg Warner as it should also be the same length ... only problem is you can't get them with 28 spline axles i don't think!
even if they are a bit bigger it should work depending on the wheels you have as my torana has the wheels sitting in alot further at the rear with the commodore brakes and rims on the standard torana length housing!

well i don't know that its so much the brakes that are narrower i think its more than the commodore wheels are offset in alot further than my hotwires were.

its a standard early commodore diff unshortend just the saddle's
re welded back on in the correct position
i am looking to do this again only using a v8 disk brake early commo
diff as im planning to put a injected 5lt in the fb wagon
but will need to do some measuring to make sure the diffs are the same width across

I have a VB diff sitting in my FC at the moment just waiting for me to make some saddles and VN disc brakes ready to fit. VN discs on HQ stubs up front with HQ calipers. I'm on leave from 08/01- 01/02 so will get it back to rolling again.
