You think that was bad, you should see some of these late model vehicles that come through the shop.

Had a 626 for rego, where the drivers seat belt was safety pinned at the base, obviously it was where the retractor failed and was lying low on the floor, until the seat runner cut through it.

Another example, Radiator support panel on a Hyundai Excell was cable tied, customer wondered why her car was overheating, the ground for the thermo fan was connected to this panel, rendering it useless.

And another, scraping noise from the rear........Gotta love this one, The muffler had broken off and was dragging on the ground.

What makes all this really scary is that people are total unaware of what goes on or have the care for the safety of others.

A while ago I had a family member's friend ask me why his air bag light was on in his Accent, I couldn't give him a diagnosis without having the car close and a scan tool at hand. So told him a few things to try, like is the horn working, he mentioned it didn't so I thought the clock spring had broken in the horn pad area, and mentioned to him that would have to be replaced. It was to no avail as someone before him fitted a sports steering wheel.
The mods that these young kids are doing to late model vehicles, affects the safety in these cars, and they just don't have any idea.

By the way Mal! I didn't think it would be long before the next project.
The :?: is which one to drive to Bendigo, or you gonna take Two. :D

Years ago I was doing a rego check on an XB Falcon ute.Put it up on the two post hoist and both of the front wheels fell off!!   .....well not exactly...they were still attached to the lower control arm pivot bolt.

Upper control arm ball joints were that worn the only thing that was keeping them in place was the weight of the car!!
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Pieces needed

8) Mal, good to see your keeping score with the garden fairies, If you need "y" frames and a grill, and inner guards, you can help me clean out my shed a bit, they arent the best but possibly better than yours, you will have to have a look first..I will gladly swap as much as I can for a good bonnet BAR for THE fb.

Today a little bit more tinkering in the shed and more eye opening stuff

Got the subframes off. There will be a lot of work if I'm going to reuse these as the full front cross
section is rusted out. Two of the rear legs are stuffed and the rear drivers side upright section
in the corner is rusted.

Image

Once the subframes were off I had a better chance to look at where they bolt on at the lower section
This is the drivers side

Image

This being the way to fix inner front corner rust without taking the subframes off. You leave the
subframes on and weld a piece of metal on around the leg and hope the bolt will save the day.
There was absolutely nothing between where the leg bolts on and the inner sill.

Image

Just another picture of the dodgee trans tunnel

Image

I plan to start cutting the sills off the donor car tomorrow. May be looking at doing full inner and outer
and front corner cuts from the old wagon to the sedan. Amazingly enough my parts car has no rust in the
inner or outer sills or front corners at all.

I reckon you could get a commission on that trans tunnel for one of those arty farty sculptures you get at the local public library/park

My thoughts exactly RB, after seeing the lower sections I wasn't looking forward to seeing what was behind the top bits

Its had the subframes off at some stage as behind the top bit was painted with red oxide primer. On the drivers side theres a hole about the size of a 20c piece only.

Dan,

I intend to start cutting this afternoon. I'm cutting the whole sides off, inner and outer sill, A pillar, B pillar and doglegs in one piece. And of course the roof will be coming off also. Its in good nick also.

Will have a look at the dogleg and let you know when I get it all cut off.

8) Gardens don't grow in winter, so you don't need to do it just now, wait till it's spring time. Hows that for an excuse.
