Nice TIG welding. You must have a steady hand and good eyes

Just driven a Mercedes Sprinter up the coast and back of WA,

Couldn't here the radio but tuned into the turbo noise, I could get used to that ! MMMMMMM ?????

I hope you're going to intercool it. The asthmatic grey head will be a restriction that will generate head pressure on the turbo with the resultant heating of the intake charge. Detonation will need to be well controlled.

Another way around the inlet heating is to run water injection. May be neater than an intercooler.

You reckon that will be an issue with only 6-7 PSI of boost mate ????

Also depends on timing, fuel quality, etc. I'd hate to get one bad batch of fuel and hole a piston. If you don't intercool it, carry 10-20% of methanol by volume of your tank. At least you may hear it first, and you could top up with the meth (chemical intercooling as Harv suggests). I'm planning the same with my high comp engine in the FB. As the cam is high lift and minimal duration, my cranking comp is high at 240 psi. Detonation at lower rpms maybe a real issue if the fuel is bad.
