Wash and hubcaps will happen at the death. It’s all original seals/weather strips etc and they are buggered. I don’t throw a hose on it otherwise it would fill with water. All bucket and sponge which takes an age. Rolling round under the thing I need a shower too! Hoist would be nice. Maybe in the next shed.

Ordered a fuel hose a week or more ago. Aus Post tracking says they received it 5 days ago in Victoria and it hasn’t moved . Did a lap around the shed to raid off another motor. Apparently this happens a bit.
What were they thinking? The tape is not the correct colour Anyway, grabbed the one off my good Ute and fitted it up. All good.

Re bleed brakes to double check. Still a long pedal. Redid the adjustments. Doesn’t feel 100% but very drivable. I think it’s the fact I have not driven a drum braked car for around 5 years.

Took it for a quick spin up the road a couple of times and it felt pretty good. Plenty of other things could be done for a tidy up. Looks like the front engine mount is a bit doey. That will have to wait. Bonnet will definitely stay down for the show. Sorry I tried. You’ll have to tilt your head..
Need to clean it now. Do you think I can find a bucket? Will have to num my way through the ice cream in the freezer so I’ve got a container!

Looks like it will be a while waiting for the bowser attendant to fill her up. I have enjoyed reading this catch up Andrew- thanks. I am wondering how the tyres are, after sitting for 5 years and maybe being on the rims for a few years before that?

Thanks mate. Tyres are brand new from probably about 15 years ago.... I’ve only done about 700 miles on them and they looked new when I bought the car. I remember thinking when I bought the car I would have liked white walls but I didn’t want to replace new tyres.

I actually noticed yesterday they have “made in Australia” on the side. Maybe they are more than 15 years. They’ve always had air in them. Anything I need to looking out for? I’ve been checking the rims for warmth, do I need to check the tyres as well?

Hi Andrew.There are others more knowledgeable than me about this but there are legal limits on tyre life for rego and negative impacts on safety due to age related case deterioration.

Methinks there are manufacturer's recommended limits (typically 10 years depending on supplier), but no legal limits on tyre age. I could be wrong though.

My local rego fella mumbled something about 7 years last time I was talking to him about tyres. Apparently caravanners get caught a lot.

If there are cracks in the firewall or around the edge of the tread after a bit of a drive they are a risk at high speed
Radials last better than bias plys but 15 years I’d be thinking replacement

Thanks mate. I’ll take it for a longer spin (just under the 15km allowable radius...) and see how they go. New tyres will be on the cards, just might not get done this week. It’s only a quiet trundle into town on the weekend.

Didn’t Anthony Hopkins in “the world fastest Indian” fill a few cracks in with boot polish? Might have been a bit of liberal licence..

One of the guys in the club I was in several years ago took his car in for new tyres. The young fella working on it was a bit blown away by the non metric balance weights.. it’s previous set were from the early 80s.

A quiet trundle is safe enough mate - the cracks are a indicator the rubber is breaking down - when that starts it tends to let go the steel belts and you get separations which are sometime just lumpy bumpy horribleness or other time they decide to go pop and scrape the crap out of your guards on the way to the side of the road - enjoy

We don’t have the log book system in qld with all its benefits and regular inspections but we get to keep our tyres!

Noticed one of my indicators on the dash is on MDMA when turned on. Is there anything more than 3 screws and 60 years of grit holding this lense on? Doesn’t make sense for it to be held in by the chrome. Am I just being too gentle? Don’t want to crack the lense. It will jeopardise my chances at grand champion… the manual isn’t really helping me with this one.

Should have looked at the manual before attempting to unscrew everything to get to a headlight bulb though. Might have to re aim one side after I get a new bulb… It’s blown one of the filaments.
