132 bored to 138, you hot rodder! Begs the question did the L and B motors use the same sand cast moulds, or did they reduce the water jacket 1/16"? Surely not.

The cylinder blocks have different part numbers, so different moulds. The L block has a 7408xxx part number, and the B blocks have a 741xxxx part number, and bigger welch plugs on the crankcase side. And no, I'm not going outside to check. Dark, and raining.

EK Ute returns

Post by WesternWagon »

Well I found another block, locally.

Top Bloke and he loves his grey’s had a cool ute he is putting an S14 super charger on. Had one of Harv’s gaskets in his shed amongst other cool stuff

From what I can read it’s a late block with Police stamping June 64

Has more oil holes than my block and more solid bearing caps, it’s standard boreImage also has a small hole rear of the cam, and larger core plugs

Have put an old hot grey in that I had sitting in the shed for the time being

Will clean it up and see what it looks like before deciding.

EK Ute returns

Rebuilding the oil pump for my grey build
Note the slight difference in the pumps one is out of a J block, the other from a B block (EK)
Playing with the spring at bit more tension on t hi r other pump
Was told to make it 80mm overall required 14mm spacer
Will bench test to see the results Image

The main difference between pumps is that the motor of the oil pump on the left got dropped on the sump, and bent the screen cover. Needs straightening.

Shape of the sump may have been guilty of that one.

Anyone shed some light on these short Speco manifolds ?
Polished one up came up a treat

Tubular manifold has been heated and moved forward, maybe to clear the firewall

They look a bit civilised compared to the long runners Gazza. Be fun to line up and seal. Long runners = torquey, short runners = power??

Low mileage motor from 1952 FX Sedan. Motor & Gearbox was fully reconditioned by the previous owner, a well known and respected early Holden Fanatic (and qualified mechanic).
less than 1,500 miles since all the running gear rebuilt.

Here's some specs from the previous owner & builder of this motor.

Capacity - 138ci
Block bored to 3 & 1/16"
Block decked
Crank reground - Mains 0.030 Rods - 0.020
Mains & Rod bearings by Kings.
Pistons: ACL 3 Ring
Rods resized for 0.006 Bearing crush
Mild cam (previous owner unsure of specs)
Lifters refaced.
Fitted with new harmonic Balancer & cam gear.
All new core plugs.
Lubrication is via a full flow system with remote mount filter

Head is fitted with larger red motor valves.
Crow double valve springs.
Ported and port matched to manifolds.

Speco ally rocker cover (polished)
Twin carbies on a polished manifold along with two chrome air cleaners.
Carbs are jetted 48 main & 65 power valve. They are also fitted with venturi restrictors.
Extractors.

Earlier this year fitted 2 x fully rebuilt Stromberg carbies from ALLCARBS in Victoria.
I also fitted one of Paul Caldwell's High Energy distributors and Control module.
new 8mm Eagle high tension leads and a Bosch transformer type coil

Oil Pressure sits on 40 PSI and motor starts at the touch of the starter button. Engine is fitted with engine mounts, starter, alternator (new), water pump, etc.

Have this bump stick in the shed
