When I did the V6 "rust free" EK I unbolted the top bolts and one pair of the bottoms , swung the front of the car down , repaired the rust and then bolted it all back up again

Thanks so much Dave and Cal for the pics. I was always been told you have to remove the whole subframe once you get rust there. It is so great to see that you can repair that area without all the other work. Well done Dave. I'm impressed.

Your way also sounds interesting Backy, I thought about unbolting the top and leaving the bottom attached, though I didn't think it would offer enough room to get into the upper area.

Car is coming along great Cal !!!

Bit of an update. Found the same rust on the left side of the firewall as on the right. It was well hidden behind dirt, until Dave had a good go at it

Anyway, I paint stripped back the roof and sunvisor. Finally got the hang of it without snapping blades every minute, and making a total mess

Can't understand why one of the previous owners painted over the chrome ends

Amazed at the condition of the roof. It had a small 3-4mm rust hole on the left side which I assumed was part of a much larger problem, but that was it.

More to come next week.

Some more progress....

This was the rust on the left side of the firewall, actually worse than the right hand side.

Dave did his magic on the right guard. Had the same previous dodgy repair to the peak as the other guard. the rusted section on the top rear of the guard was also replaced

Rust repair on rusted section on roof. I was sitting in the car with a bucket of water and wet rag keeping the roof lining moist, as my heart was skipping a bit weach time I saw weld spatter through the lining  . Thankfully nothing caught fire

Whilst Dave was working on the guard, we moved the car to the grass, where I was cleaning off 50 years worth of grease and whatever else from the front end. Still more to do, but the amount of shit that came off was unbelievable

Some more progress....

The repair on the roof tidied up with a bit of filler

Dave repaired the two dents caused by the bumper bar bracket

After

The damage caused by the over riders was whacked out, plus Dave heat shrunk the metal in those areas, as it had stretched

A few minor dents and scrapes on the quarters repaired. A bit of filler added

Still got to put bottoms on the front guards. A little work on the sills etc. If all goes well and the weather gods are kind another few weeks.
