Thanks Rodger, I’ll do some investigation.

Thanks again

Often stamped on the pinion oil singer as well drew. That is the pressed metal ring sits over the seal. 1:3.89 ratio are the only type that have the old style pinion flange that accepts bolt on uni joint caps. 3.08 and 2.78 ratios have a slightly different casting which requires a longer stud in the axle housing, and from memory also a long drain bolt. As above, you can verify the ratio installed by jacking up one wheel, rotating through two revolutions and counting tailshaft revolutions. Or rotate both wheels by 360deg.

Cheers Clay, that info about the bolt on Uni saves me dismantling to look for markings.
I’ll go have an eye ball at what I have got in the yard!

Looks like I have 2 centres both at 3.55.

Better than the factory 3.89 I guess!

Both very rusty and in need of rebuilds though

Stupid question and I’m sure they are the same but I need to ask…

Sedan and wagon diff housings are the same?

Yep. Sedan and wagon diff housings are the same.

If you're after diff centres, it'd be worth getting in touch with Simon at HKTG Parts Recovery.

Same same same
Minor differences through the models. FB EK got a different axle bearing and (no) seal arrangement to FE FC, as well as wider springs and brakes. EJ got new brakes with different axle housing flange to bolt up the different backing plates, and went back to the FC style bearing and seal set up.

Hey Drew
I am thinking that 3.55 might be a good addition to my Ute which I presume has the original 3.89 diff??? Would be interested in having a look one day if your not in a hurry to dispose of it. Thanks
Stephen

Yeah mate that should be no problems, I’ll just get my wagon sorted out first as I’m not sure exactly what will be needed.

And both of the 3.55 centres have been exposed to the weather for many years too so only a clean up and inspection after the acid bath will truly tell what they are like
