Still getting carried away
Tripped over a few Carb's / manifolds and other bits down the shed and had a brain wave.
Fitted the "H" head a few weeks back and thought I should follow it up with a few more improvements
Was piecing together a pair of Strombergs on an early THOMAS manifold, but then found a CAIN manifold and a heap of HOLLEY 2 BBL bits in a box and built one of them instead

Yeah, boring and uninspired cop-out, but had it on and running in a couple of hours instead of a couple of weeks building the Strombergs/linkages etc. etc.
Found an old set of GENIE extractors and gave them a birthday, made up accelerator brackets, re-routed the water heater hoses, replaced the accelerator cable with a longer HZ V8 job, cut and welded the old 1 & 1/4 inch exhaust to fit the end of the 2" extractors....................and that was about it
Fired up, tuned up and on the road in 4 hours
Goes like a RED motor should and is a dream to drive.
While underneath welding exhaust, found the Idler arm well worn and flopping about like a Rabbit with a lead weight in the left ear
But bugger me, ring COVENTRY's ......." do you have an idler arm for a 1962 EK HOLDEN"
Answer....."Yeah mate, we got two in stock, when do ya want it."
Gotta love old HOLDEN's
Picked it up, threw it in and stuff me if it don't drive better than just about all of our other cars Never had an old Holden that actually went the direction you steered the bloody thing ( well, the SS Hatchback is one exception!)

Anyrate........enough ramblings for now........will post up a few more pics and see what comes next in the "to do" list. Probably gonna be a paint job me thinks!

The two Chev Hot-Rods are all being made of bits of "Crap" laying around the place
People always say..."must cost you a fortune building these cars", which is where they don't understand why you have all this "crap" laying around.
It's very rare that I actually have to go out and buy something!
Jaguar/Torana/Commodore/Falcon/Gemini/HX-HZ Holdens............front ends, steering colums/racks/diffs, LSD's, brake boosters/discs and drums, interior parts and one hell of a pile of various 6 & V8 engines/gearboxes/carbs/manifolds etc. etc. the list is long and large.
I honestly still don't know exactly what I do and don't have.
Many a time gone out and bought a part that I later found 6 of sitting brand new in a box somewhere
One of my customers needed a cracked exhaust manifold replaced on a 1965 Galaxie.
Many a person had tried to find one with no luck
I walked around the back of the shed and found three
It all comes in VERY handy having all this "crap" at your disposal

Normally would just fix her up myself.....but no, too busy, other stuff to do, drop it off and let the experts handle it.
Go to the local glass joint, "Yeah mate, pop her out, goo it back in, all should be sweet."

Phone call 2 hours later..."Bob, you need to get down here and have a look at this."

SHITE....50 year old rubber crumbling away as they are trying to fit it back in, black goop EVERYWHERE including the hoodlining/carpet/paint/seatbelts etc.
"Gonna need a new seal" they say.

Rare Spares : " On back-order until the second week of October."
Scotts Auto Rubber: " Sorry Bob.none in stock.
(Great customer service over a weekend by the way )
Evil Bay: "6 Sold, 4 Left". Order/pay/cross fingers and wait.

Top it all off.....local glass fitter " Oh yeah, I'm going on holidays in two weeks."

AAAAAAhhhhhhhhhh the joy of doing things properly

NOT a whinge folks.........just the ongoing series of speed humps that keep appearing when you try and do the right thing.

Woulda been better off just chucking a handfull of Flexiseal under it myself and saved 2 weeks of dollars/stress and time.

Believe it or not......the SS is a very controllable car to drive..........my little LC GTR Torrie, on the other hand, used to "rear steer" through all 4 gears on a dry road up to 80kmh


The Gemini on the other hand, decides its own direction.....but is usually only going about 10 kmh while the speedo is reading 140

Got the rear window seal sorted and made it to Geraldton
I can highly recommend Old Auto Factory for supplying the seal.
A good product, cheaper than Rare Spares and they posted it Priority Air Mail overnight, at no extra cost before our payment for the item even cleared their bank account

Rarely get service like that much anymore

Oh yeah......glass joint managed to put the window in crooked and tore apart the new seal
Got us to the show, but will be discussing his bill when it arrives in the mail!

I see Rare Spares have just released the new EK Guard Chrome "Slashes".
Have been waiting on these for quite some time & hope they've done a good job on them.
Come in a kit of 6 (3xlhs & 3 x rhs), no clips I'm assuming, for $50 per set plus post. (around $20!)

I ordered the first couple of sets direct from Melbourne...........will let you know how they go when they arrive.
Anyone else got hold of a set yet ?????????????????????

Long live the "Long Roofs"

Really having a dilemma about getting her painted though.
Every show we've been to and people that check it out just cannot believe it has never been painted.
Even some top paint judges at the shows have said "Leave it alone! Don't touch it, you never see cars like this any more."
Sure it has surface rust on top of the guards, is full of stone chips and has 50 years of rural farm dints and scratches here and there,
but that is what everyone (including myself) loves about it...........there is years of history in that paint.......every mark tells a story

We'll probably just leave it for now and try and preserve it the best we can. Keep up the wash & wax and looking to fit an Electronic Rust Protector just to be on the safe side.
Understandably we realize this is not a "Steve Jackson" quality vehicle, but one worth preserving all the same.
