Got the tailgate sorted so it doesn't drop. The internal mechanism was very sloppy, so I had shimmed it up with washers. Too much tension on the mechanism, and the rod return springs could not cope. Replaced the rod return springs with some heavier ones from Bunnings, and all good.

Sorted out the cargo floor latches (recessed them a bit more and fitted fancy cover plates).

Fixed the firewall heater grommet. Pulled the heater hoses, glued the grommet to the firewall, lubed the hoses then fed them back through. Got glycol everywhere despite my best intentions.

Sorted out why the indicators were not cancelling. The aftermarket Autotechnica steering wheel had plastic "cancelling" pins that were nowhere near deep enough to engage the cancelling springs. Made up a new cancelling pin and fitted. Made me smile... I bought that steering wheel (with an LH Torana hub) from K-Mart many years ago. Not sure anyone stocks LH Torana hubs anymore, let alone K-Mart.

Think I have sorted the speedo too - road test to follow.

Hi Harv, I am doing an EK wagon with a 307 Chev, and just looking at seat belts. I appreciate all the info you have put on the forum, it really helps. Just wondering if you would know the part numbers of the seatbelts you used. Thanks Ian

The belts that I used are made by HEMCO:
• Inertia lap/sash belt with 600mm adjustable buckles (HEMCO part number 1790001)
• Static lap belts with 600mm adjustable buckles (HEMCO part number 1790002)
• XL 0/0º mount inertia lap/sash belts with 600mm adjustable buckles (HEMCO part number 1600051XLSP)
• 90º L-bracket mounts (HEMCO part number 1765174)
• Cad-plated floor reinforcing plate with captive nut (can't find the part number).

Progress has been slow, as the kids are breaking the other vehicles faster than I can repair them. Speedo cable broken, filthy miss and rubbing exhaust on the FB, and buggered starter motor solenoid on the VL. Couldn't move the Camira to get the Torana out so I can get to the Commodore as the Cortina and Camira were in the way.

Managed to get the auto trans cooler plumbed up, and reoriented the handbrake cable brackets to move the handbrake away from the new (quieter) mufflers.

Pulled the shiny new carb down to see why it is idling so rich. Mixture screws were OK (1.5 turns out), and power valve was OK (6.5"Hg valve, car idles at 13"Hg so power valve will be shut). Transition slot appears to be appropriately covered at idle. Suspect main metering jets are a wee-tad large.

Still got to calibrate the speedo - test run and new gear set next time I am home. Should be ready then for the engineer.

Car needs a good wash and tidy up - lots of smeary finger prints don't make it too photogenic. Washer bottle has decided it wants to dribble out the washer jet when the car is sitting around, despite the plumbing being all uphill . Jet is mounted EK-style in the bonnet, so water trails down the bonnet. Will fit a late-model non-return valve and see if that helps.

Hi Harv,
With the location of the sash guide where I think it needs to go on the rear pillar in accordance with the code, and then having the retractor horizontal on top of the wheelarch, it appears that my seatbelt will be pulling at an angle over the rear seat top bracket. Just wondering if you found that?
Also have tried attaching a picture of my car below to see if I can get it to work, I have reduced the size of my pictures, which I think has been the trouble so far.

Hey green wagon I used Harvs seatbelt guide too and yep seat belt runs over the top of the seat brackett
on my wagon I fitted a small piece of tube onto the top of the brackett so the belt ran smoothly over the top as per my engineers suggestion I can send you some pics if I can get it to work I'm having trouble posting pics aswel

Thanks Jay, yes that sounds like a good idea to solve the problem, did you just weld a piece of metal tube on? and yes the information Harv has shared has been extremely helpful with my build so far, thanks again Harv.

The main drama with trying to comply with the NCOP code (and hence ADR) for seatbelts is that it is a very "measurement heavy" process. Depending on how far apart you put the side belts on the floor (the "bumcrack line" from the Guide), the sash guide location varies a lot. This is why I send people the Guide, rather than just a distance up the B or C pillar.

When I did mine, I ended up with the rear belts running under the seat bracket.

Engine bay looks fantastic Harv. As do the seats. You got them retrimmed with the silver hounds tooth from SMS Fabrics USA? The icing on the cake that gear mate.
