Well Guys and Gals,

It looks like once again the nationals was a blast so the inspiration has driven me back to the shed.

I have just finished making love to my grinder and welder for the last 4 days and Im a bit over it :x :x :x

Cut and shut a few pieces to fill in all the holes, I should never have cut them out in the first place and I should have chucked the sub frame and started with an intact one, oh well point of no return now.

Made a bracket for the steering column which is a HT Holden with the outside tube shortened and the collapsable internal shaft machined to suit the Torana coupling.

Painted some bits before the rain started pissing down so only got 1 coat on. Its the first time for me with 2 pack as well so im pleased with the results, pictures dont really show but the shine is great straight from the gun.

Guys,
Got the shits with the subframe because its just so time consuming so I went back to the extractors and the final check for the motor position
As you can see here the pipes are all over the shop but its necessary because I wanted the primaries to be of equal length or as close as possible. I reckon I got them within 50mm of each other.

Theres lots to consider such things as spark plug leads oil filter and startermotor that will all need to be removed without pulling the motor.

With the Torana front I have been able to set the motor down by 1 inch more than the HR front, I will need to relieve the sump slightly, but with the motor being lower to the center of gravity it should make the car handle better.
I am getting to the point that the fabrication is allmost finished and I cant wait to put some paint on, so close yet so far !!!!!

You are winning , but still got a way to go yet , its all the little bits that take time , have been working solid on mine last couple of weeks and it looks no different :( .

Have you had a go at your drivers side pipes yet ? they were the worse ones for me .

Keep going you will soon be finishing bits off and fitting them for the last time , feels good to do that :)

That motor is low enough for an under bonnet blower!

Keep an eye on your sump clearance with the donk that low . 8)

Thanks Rusty, when you see everyone driving around with a grin from ear to ear you start thinking why dont I just buy a car thats going ! I suppose its about yep I did that myself :wink: :wink: :wink: Driver side pipes are a little more of a challenge but I will route them slightly different, hopefully still be equal length primaries. The sound and HP you gain from a chev with tuned pipes is awesome, and I am a lunatic I know but Ive just got to do it. :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Thanks Harko. The crossmember is about 5mm lower than the sump, so some protection still, and I made the exhaust sit 10mm lower than both the motor and gearbox sump.

Just an update, spent the last 2 days in the shed and finished off the extractors,

I'm very happy with the result because I managed to get all the primaries pipes within 50mm off each other.

Can't put them in or out unless the motor comes out, but thats ok.

The drivers side was tricky :shock: :shock: Had the motor in and out about 10 times, but all good fun.

looks like a good foot warmer the back pipe on the right hand side,well done :) its not easy i know i've tried :thumbsup:
i like the x pipe too i have one on mine they are supose to work well

You piss me off!
I was happy with my front end till I got online last night and seen yours.
I have spent the last 8hrs grinding and smoothing the engine bay so I have a comparible engine bay, slow down so I can catch up.

Thanks for all the comments guys especially the one "you piss me off", you know baker12 you sound just like my wife :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Anyway I will finish the exhaust right off and the thats it, motor location mounts etc all done. So next up Rusty is the body OH YEAH :D :D :D :D :D . No rust just a few mods to finish off. I can smell that paint booth :ewink: :ewink:
