doing rust repairs now so not alot to report. pics coming over the next day or so.

ok some progress...
So the drivers side doors and tailgate have now been chopped.
At the same time some fairly involved rust work had to be done on the front screen pillar, and around the rear door.
Panel gaps were fine tuned by cutting teh edges, welding then filing to shape.
the gap at the top of the upper front door looks bad in the pic, but it's OK. a skim of filler should be OK. there was alot of factory lead here.

now to fix some of the usual rusty bits, and drop the side glass in.

Is the back tailgate going lexan or glass

Glass... according to Smooth Customs, it should be OK to cut. Mark gave me some glass, maybe I should try cut it slowly using a sanding disc on a grinder.

Lexan wouldn't get thru engineering, my last time, the engineer checked all the stamps on the glass.

doesn't the tailgate glass have a curve and it's toughened and i didn't think you could cut or grind toughened glass but if it is curved maybe it's so small that you'll get away with flat

there used to be a way around the approved glass/lexcan perspex thing don't know if it's still there and you have to deal with engineers etc that aren't pedantic when i found out the loophole it was actually the engineer that put me onto it

Guys

You can grind / sand toughened glass. It is however a slow, tedious and expensive excercise and you need a special machine.

If you look at the edge of some screens you will see sand marks from the factory.

I remember a story that Rod Hadfield wrote many moons ago on the process, couldn't find it now though.

Hmmm its not ok to cut but a screen in laminated that is the same curve will work ,from memmory its fairly flat at one end probably the top and fairly curved at the other.
When I did the FC Nomad I was considering either sinking the glass into a channel (which wouldnt work for me) or using a rubber that lipped from the tailgate onto the glass and modifying the inner portion of the lower tailgate to suit.

My ute went through the loophole "If there is glass it has to be safety glass" It was a windy ride down to rego

I'll just weld it all up and make it a blind wagon

I dunno, will give it some thought.. Im just relieved now, and my brain is on coasting mode.
