Rosco can you find me one of those Nasco parachutes.
I'll probably need it with the raw power the old grey will put out
Has anyone had any experience with pinstriping
Is it difficult

I'm willing to give anything a shot.
Or do you think this would be possible to do with masking
There is a continuous line through the pattern (these will continue through the lenth of the body as a twin stripe) so I can paint the top and bottom colors easily enough.
Just the pinstriping annoying me at the moment

Hi Wayne,
as you would probably expect......
I have made a habit of picking up and collecting things which I might "need"..... one of those is a four page "how to" from a long time ago called "pinstriping made easy"..... you're welcome to it - either if you're up this way or would like me to copy it and post it down.....
It describes how to do this using an airbrush - I haven't done it - but something in the text may prove useful......

Hi Wayne,
email sent to your HM address...
it wasn't air-brush, but a pinstriping machine...

Probably called a Buegler (sp?). My dad bought one which we played around with a bit. The design you have may prove difficult to do using one as we found the only way to get points is to mask them.
Brush would be easier but takes alot more skill to get a continous line, if you get stuck I can put you onto someone who may be able to do it for you, but have no idea of cost....

Yes Brett - that's the one..... read the blurb but won't go that way.....
I have a few airbrushes and mask up using tape laid on a sheet of glass then cut with a sharp blade.
For curves, I use plastic insulation tape cut the same way......
I leaned these tricks when making model railways..... razor sharp edges - no fuzzy lines....
Another trick was to lay a thin coat of the underlying paint down just prior to the pinstripe - it seals out almost any chance of "bleeding" but do this very thinly or the mask will rip it up.....
When it's cured out, I block back with 800 then spray a couple of top coats of COB - I have not used this on any cars..... just model rail other stuff...
Sent Wayne a humongous (size) email last night - forgot to "shrink" the scan down..... he's probably still downloading it...

Actually just thought of an easier way to do it. Scan the image and have it vinyl cut by a signwriter/sticker person. Gaurantee's both sides the same and much easier.

That'd do it - maybe a coat or two of COB just to seal it and take away the "edge"....?
frats,
Rosco
ps Wayne has lost this thread......

Not quite we are actually helping him I think
As for the vinyl it could also be reversed and used to mask up the area to allow painting then removed...

Clever Brett,
From memory, think that was how you did your roof?
Wayne - if you've had enough of my banter - I'll open up another thread....

Not quite, we used curtains
But using vinyl opens up the design tenfold and cost....

Hi Wayne,
Its been a while, the car is looking great. Love the boot. (Show off

)
Cant wait to see it in the flesh.
Mate, been on and off the site for a while, fighting with computer shitting itself, job crap and plain lack of get up and go. Trying to catch up now.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys
Been away last few days. Went to the Kustom Nats at the Island and then went straight to Bright for a few days relaxation.
Nice and cool along the river, even though it was over 40deg.
No, you aren't taking over the thread.
Go for it

any info is great.
I've seen a motor bike fuel tank done by painting the stripe color first, then taping the stripe and painting over the lot and then peeling off the tape to reveal the stripe.
Then clear coating to compensate for the slight step left by the tape.
I have no idea whether this would work or not on the car. Unsure whether I'd get a clean line or not
Somewhere on here a long time back I'm sure I saw a post where it said to avoid using clear coat. Why

Hi Wayne,
If the stripes are painted I can't see a problem with a clear coat, I have a boat that we had airbrushed graphics on with clear over the top 7 years ago and it still looks like it is only 6 months old

. Not sure if stick on pinstripe would be the same but have had experiences with stickers cleared over and they were fine.
