Interested to hear of your roadtest with the Clive 82 grind mate. I was on the phone to Mr Stenlake a few weeks back and he recommends this cam for the grey.

With the wagon repaired, I could get at Grace's ute. Can't go very far (or very often) with the lockdown rules, but managed to get it warm then take it the local shops. Starts OK, and I've got the idle turned up to maybe 700rpm to make the lump less obnoxious. A little sluggish down low, needs a bit of encouragement when taking street corners in second or slowing down for lights then taking off in second from a rolling start. Not much of an opportunity to let it stretch its legs (only a short length of road at 80km/h locally), but feels stronger as I started to wring its neck.

With the new timing gear, it was nice to return to home under its own power (instead of on a tilt-tray or tow-rope)

With the single Strommie and stock head, I suspect it might be like one of those blokes who goes to the gym and does lots of abs but no cardio... looks tough but runs out of puff. Will know more once the lockdown eases and I can get it onto the highway.

Taller diff and stay in first. I actually find it is easier to change to first while rolling with the 3.08. You can be going that bit faster.

Hi Harv,

I ran in the Clive 82 cam for my EK last Friday, then took it for a spin out to Pie In The Sky. I am very happy I followed Clive's recommendation - it is much better around town than the much bigger Wade 140 cam. Much less going up and down the gears, with great torque from the 2000 rpm mark where Clive said the cam starts to get to work. Can even pull away from standstill in second gear on the flat (3.55 diff and 185/80 profile tyres on 13s). My grey has triple Strommies, a ported big valve head that's been skimmed to the bottom of the thumbprint and about 9.8:1 compression.

Clive told me this is the biggest cam for a street grey he would recommend; and the smallest he would recommend for a grey with compression of 9.5:1 or higher. I can see why it's been such a popular street grind. A lift in compression, a mild port head job with red motor valves and a set of twins or triples would really wake Grace's ute up, yet the car would remain a very tractable daily driver, albeit one with a nice exhaust note.

A set of twins maybe Harv? Ive thought about selling mine on the speco manifold - they need a little tweeking to get best out of them but they have been recoed already ?

Just gotta finish putting the springs back into the HR, do the exhaust gaskets and safety wire on the EK wagon, pickup the FB brake hoses and VH40 from Burt Bros, guide Number 1 Son through a VL manual gearbox conversion, cut the paint on the middle daughter's Corolla and work to pay the bills
