It seems strange and you guys have probably seen this before, but in the promotional video the screen goes in ok ??

Is it a change of seal or do you have an older one maybe ?

I am curious cause I have an older Rares one that I will try and use down the track ?

The video is slightly dodgy... they aren't putting any mastic in. Even with Jim the Master Windscreen Fitter, the damn thing didn't fall in like it does in the Rares video. He had to give it quite a pounding to get it to move and flex to where it needed to be. He also used a ton of RP70 to get the thing to slide in (both the stainless and the screen). Never would have thought that mastic and RP70 are compatible, but apparently so. Jim had more moves than a Swiss watch - a real art to watch.

Nigel won the auction at the Renmark nats so the rubber is less than 2 years old , the stainless just doesnt sit in far enough

Tried to get the two rear quarter windows into the wagon last time I was home. After my windscreen fitting failure, I was ready to have a go at something simpler. Surely those two windows cant be that hard.

Got the string in place, mastic on, glass onto the body, Number 1 son helping. Tore the rubber. Said some bad words. Pulled the window back out and cleaned all the mastic off.

Went to Rares. They have had no stock since August 2017. Rubber die is being retooled. Come back in August 2018. Said some more bad words.

Rang around, seems like most places on-sell Rares rubbers. Finally got one from Old Auto Rubber. They make them up as they are ordered. Nice blokes to talk to too.

I swallowed my pride, admitted I can't fit windows, and called back Jim the Windscreen Master. He dropped them in very, very quickly.

With all the glass in place, its time to get serious about the trim out.

Jim also confirmed that my oddball side windows are most likely &*#@. Definitely not Holden, who never used the plastic mounting buttons. The &*#@ windows got a special trip in the wheelie bin.

Slowly getting there with the wagon, but still feels like a million things to do. Still have to:

• Work out why the !@#%$%# thing wont start.
• Box rear axle leaf-spring mount (simple welding job, but I can't weld).
• Fit washer under right hand side booster nut (easy job).
• Fit another set of mufflers (104dB is a tad loud). Should be an easy job for the muffler shop.
• Fit proportioning valve (got it, just gotta cut and flare it in).
• Refit gauges (should be simple).
• Refit heater (should be simple, but the Rares grommet is waaay to thin and wont stay in place - anyone got a decent thick firewall heater grommet?).
• Work out why my fancy brake vacuum pump wiring doesn't work.
• Work out why the wipers, horn, dashlights and oil pressure light have stopped working (may have bumped wires loose).
• Repair speedo (if it won't behave, it gets the speedo out of the FB).
• Fit passenger front door mould front screw (I really, really wish I had put the side moulds on before the doors were hung).
• Trim carpet, fit scuff plate and kick panel to drivers front side only (simple job).
• Fit front seat and bolt down front seat belts.
• Fit peep mirror.
• Fit front door trims and handles (gotta glue down the trim better first).

This working away from home business is frustrating... can't seem to get a good run at the wagon. Seem to spend more time setting up and packing up than working .

Don't worry Harv,

I'm in the same boat, work hard both at work and home, look after sick children ( I have one that requires a lot of attention and time )
and the spare 3 hours of the week goes into thinking about what to do next !!!!!!!!
Work through your list hardest to easiest and that normally works the best for me anyway.

Looking good Harv, slowly slowly and you will get there; as the boys said prioritise the list and work through it.

What carpet did you use mate, I haven't looked back but assume you used a larger floor hump for the gearbox.

The wagon was originally manual, but someone had fitted a huge trans tunnel to it at some stage. I was going to use a CRS trans tunnel for the TH350, but the CRS steel was no larger than the one already there. I reckon I could get an Allison box in it . I used a Knox carpet for an automatic, and it fit really well - plenty of spare carpet to trim back at the scuffplates. Used a Knox carpet for Grace's ute too - very happy with the quality, fit and service.
