Spent a full day on the wagon today, got a month to clean,paint underside as well as fix rear floor to suit new tank, happy with today's progress, a big thanks to Tony (tm50) and my dad shane for all the help

Had missed this thread - caught up with you at Wang, Brett..... we were in the same CP.
You've come a long, long way since picking this old girl up... and yes, our plans never run unhindered.... but, your experience leads the way for others to follow.

You've now got her up on the spit - don't waste this opportunity.... how I wished I could have had it so easy when working/welding sub-floor.....
Great chassis rails and hump.... the pix with the older cars show that this is going to be a very well finished project...

You've got 17 months up your sleeve for the Qld nats... how fitting.... it's where you drove the old girl home from...... bet the trip back home from Qld will be a complete contrast to the first one.......OFL - chuckle, chuckle.....

Bloody hell mate, you don't muck around!!!

Cheers rosco, it was great meeting you at the last Nats, yeah plan to do it all right underneath, paint, seal and fix a couple of little spots, work out hand brake as well, yeah woody don't have time to muck around, my brothers wedding reception is going to be held in that drive way! ( yes have convinced him to use FB's as wedding cars ) so need mine back on her legs before then and return bill's rotissarie had it for long enough, then from that point it should be smooth sailing ( who am I kidding! )

Got the car back from the sand blasters today, am pretty happy, few more holes but nothing major!



Now the plan is to get all holes fixed ASAP then of to the painters!!

Don't forget, while it's on the rotisserie it's a great opportunity to make up your brake lines, fuel lines and canister breather line along with all the clips and brackets. I remember thinking this whilst under my FB struggling with 9mm bundy tube and regretting my lack of forethought.

Yeah will do Richard, also going to be running the battery in the back now, so will run them wires too, want to get all the rust fixed first tho! The list seems to be getting longer lol fingers crossed to be cruising by Nov-Dec!!

I "was" going to have a lazy day today (41 degrees) but just reading this makes me feel guilty so p'raps I should so do a re-think and head to the shed and do a bit more on our wagon. Seriously well done on your progress looks great

Thanks roger, nah if it was 41 I'd be hiding inside, just keep plodding away at your wagon, at least you guys have other cars to drive, it makes me crazy not being able to drive my wagon,

She is going to get the rest of the rust cut out and fixed next Sat, so hopefully have it back in a month. This gives my time to organise a few other things, maybe some of you guys could send me in the right direction:

Door trims: heard of a guy that does 2.5mm laser cut door trims, anyone got details??? In Qld he is I've been told

Steering arms: need to be drilled out to suit ball joints, best place to get this done??

Think that's it, so once I have her home will be trying to organise paint! Got the coin flip of 2k or acrilyc! Choices hey lol

and I hear you with missing driving one im feeling it lately i miss my green machine

Yes we have others and lucky to have them to drive as much as possible with is a lot. (Lesley has a little hyundai excel as a shopping trolley, after getting the sedan bumped and battered , by people who could not care less ....out shopping just one time too much) , but that little car is getting really tired and the wagon will be hers to drive ....sooner rather than later ....hopefully.

You're leaping along with this build. Richard has given you some sound advice - don't stop at fuel lines etc..... the battery mounted in the rear is going to need some serious cabling - you also have opportunity to arrange some protective tubing underside for conduit and cabling to run through - up to the engine bay. Don't just opt for the positive line - make enough provision for the negative as well... it gets just as much of a hit on it when starting - don't stress your body/frame for this... electrolysis starts playing a part when the metal gets wet.

I can't comment on your steering arms - mine just took the new tie-rod ends without any need for alteration.

Paint - you've already hear me spruke enough about this, but I'm going to ask a basic question first.... what colour - and is it a solid or a pearl/metallic.

If you're going solid colour - I'm firmly of the opinion that acrylic is the answer... it's just so - forgivable and fixable...

If you are going for a candy or pearlescent... it's a pretty tough call to match any touch up.
The hardiness of 2K is probably a more resilient finish and will resist more abrasion (chips excepted) - although I will never suggest moving from acrylic - these are the only times when perhaps a 2K will outperform it..... but only because you aren't going to be able to get a good match-up if you need to do spot repairs anyway...
Solid = acrylic for me.... and I'd still go with it for pearls/metallics - just me, Brett - iso-cyanide frightens the daylights out of me....

It's great to be watching another build - I'm looking forward to this one.... you've got pretty big boots to fill in following the magnificent work of your Dad's vehicles...

And, finally - don't pine over not being able to drive it yet.... the wait will make your enjoyment even greater when you complete the "mission"....
