Thanks Patrick, I’m certainly having fun

So I have had the roof lining sitting on my bench for the last couple of weeks and I really need the bench space back.
I decided to give it a good clean up so I can pack it away with out worrying about working the dirt in and further on it.

A few lads recommended ‘Shift it’ to clean it up but I could only buy it in a 6ltr pack which was too big for my needs.

I ended up using ‘Simple Green’ and I am familiar with it from my trade days and it was readily available in a smaller bottle.

Nail brush has certainly been the best tool of the day.

I will moisturise the roof lining with some 303 protectant, it’s by far the best product I have used over all of the years for vinyls and plastics.

Once she is packed away I’ll be happy that it should stay supple.

However the back side of the roof lining is disgusting, it’s obvious where the rats were living!!!

So after spending time away from the Holden painting walls and entertaining a teenager on school holidays I managers to get back to it for a little bit.

The tar lining on the underside of the roof was bubbling so I decided to remove it because the car had a shuttle odour of rats piss due to the nest that was built upon behind the roof lining.

I don’t think I will replace it with anything new. Sure it may be a bit noisier in the rain but I hope to not be driving it very much in those conditions.

The repairs to the floor pan have started in earnest too.

Although the floors looked really good before a blast with the Karcher, they showed a lot of serious pitting which was about 80% through the thickness of the metal so I have chose to go bigger with the repairs than previously expected.

Also the chassis section was riddled with pin holes so that dictated bigger than expected repairs on that also.

So I’m in the guts of this process at the moment.

In relation to the insulation under the roof, it also gives a bit of protection from heat and stiffens the panels which may reduce the affect of hail and popping, when washing sanding etc.

I used dynamat for it and you would be surprised how much it stiffens the panel.

Food for thought anyway.

Thanks for the feedback Greg as I didn’t think of the panel stiffening, I will definitely consider replacing the old with some new.

Does the dyna mat stick like shit to a blanket?
I’d hate for it to come off.

I second what Greg says, you really want to put something up there , dynamat would be the best , it does indeed stick like poo to a blanket and will reduce drumming and heat transfer in summer

Another vote for Dynamat. There are cheaper versions, but I figured that I do not EVER want to take out the screens and hoodlining just because the soundproofing fell off. Dynamat is truly sticky. I used it in both the wagon and Grace's ute.

Dynamat is a proven product or the stuff rares have now adopted is what I have in mine and came highly recommended.

I used cheaper underdog version which seems to be fine. I would be sure and get the roof underside super clean and etch prime seal etc as condensation can be a serious issue leading to rust. As said the mst is foremost anti-drum protection, specially important on a long roof like yours. Having said, don't think panel van had it.

Ok guys you have all helped me decide what to do...
Dynamat it is!
I’ll start getting some prices on it.

So today I started to attack some holes with some sheet metal
and the welder.

A puller was rusted through inside at the base so I used it as a learning opportunity due to the fact that it worn the seen.
Was also a bugger of a spot to get into.

The repair was a bit rough but it’s strong.

Good job drew. Like you say, good spot go start.
