Also, the waste is blocked up to all but our ensuite so kids are encroaching. Getting a longer drain snake tomorrow.

I will probably get a local mobile wet blasting guy to come and do the tray and underside prior to the next phase of repairing the rear floor around the fuel tank etcetera. There are small areas around the top of the axle hump and in the inner wheel wells where water has sat in the floor cross member that sits on top. Around the tank is 3/4 shot and behind to the spare door is 50%.

Proud momentalmost 14 Rafferty ran the rattle gun while dad gripped the shocker shaft covers with footprints. Got a newish pair of Monroe gas shocks from the sedan to go on and needed to move the shock to get the exhaust over the axle. I’m using the copper tail pipe off my donor fb 215 just for rego. I will see if the red motor gets passed before I get carried away.

Starter motor has not re-exhibited the sticking on phenomenon. Rather it is erratic in engaging the flywheel, sometimes free wheeling but not grinding. Once again I don’t want to go to too much effort and cost on the red motor stuff before rego.

Wheel cylinders are due back early next week. I have the shoes soaking in citric prior to removal of all the levers per brake mans instructions. I intend to mask the linings and clear coat shoes when they come back from re-binding. Maintaining my record of having never machined a brake drum, I have a very good set ready to go on.

My wife has been very tolerant, or should I say resigned. I’m obsessed with getting this car on the road, kidding myself that then I can kick back and spend time on family, garden and house.

Nice work on the brake lines Clay, looks good. Your Mrs needs to appreciate that to progress work on the house & garden you need to be able to pick up gear and do trips to the dump. For that you need a good ute....... simple hey

. Keep engaging Rafferty in the project, and you'll always have an interest to share. I still get a kick out of working with Dad on early Holdens.

Better finish it and lay claim to the ute before Rafferty gets L plates though

Trev at South Glenelg Brakes hasn’t touched my wheel cylinders yet. A week has turned in to two. Maybe I should have trekked out to Gilles Plains and gone to Power Brakes.......

I finally have a temporary exhaust sorted, but for a 1 3/4 and 1 1/2 inch u clamp to procure and install. It ends at the hanger forward of the diff, consisting of cut and shut grey engine pipe off the fb sedan I think. Muffler and rusty bit of tailpipe from the van. Sounds positively tame which is the idea for identity check.

Painted the radiator ready to go in. I re-inserted the dizzy per advice from rob that it was out. It took me a few gos to get it right. One or two cylinders out first time, then 180 deg out the second time using the tdc mark on the balancer. New carb seems ok however the accelerator pump charge seems to be light on and or not atomising properly. I’ve got it on the middle hole and the plunger looked ok I thought. We will see how she goes off idle and have a tinker if need be. Starter motor is about 50 50 on pinion engagement. Thinking about borrowing the gear reduction one off blue 202 from the ek sedan before I wreck the ring gear.

Still waiting on my wheel cylinders from south Glenelg brakes. Ready Monday but taken nearly three weeks. I’ll be thinking twice about using him again. I have a drum brake master cylinder from somewhere that looks pretty good. I’m just going to bung it on and see how it goes. I think I’ll get the brakes working unassisted before I install the booster. At this stage I’m intending to use the best of the shoes I have, although I’ve started stripping some down for rebonding.

I’m thinking about getting the mobile wet blasting guy around to do the rear tub and floor and probably what ever else can be done. Underneath, cabin floor and inside guards if possible. Maybe even take the guards off and do the front suspension.

I’ll post some photos when I get the exhaust finished.

Hi Clay - Ive got a complete exhaust sitting up at the mechanics if you want it - Its in Melbourne East - only slight issue is a small dent in the bend that comes under the firewall otherwise practically new - If you can pick up it's yours. PM me for contact details

I would have to get a courier to pick it up. Weighing up options and will let you know. Two inch system right through to suit the 186 is most likely the go.

Engine got a bit hot and now won’t start No evidence of blown head gasket. Fuel pump seems dodgy and starter is not helping. I will replace the starter with my nice one and try again with a cool head. It was running pretty smooth at 850 rpm without adjusting timing or idle mixture. No gudgeon or piston slap bit a bit of a dry bearing sound. Could be the alternator.
