I thought the tailgate glass was curved ? I would love to chop my 2 door but the cost of custom glass is the killer .......

One way to make it cheaper is get hold of someone who has already chopped one and use their screen as a template. I hear that’s a lot cheaper as they have already paid set up costs.

Re chopped glass, we have to get the rear quarter glass made. Because we did not add any length to the roof ( ie just dropped it) then the rear pillar is a sharper angle, so it will be quite unique shape, we make up a metal mould and get the glass to form over it, we are happy to loan it to others who want to do this, but as I said its pretty unique shape. The tail gate glass is flat, along with the front door glass (without 1/4 vent) so they should be straight forward. Front windscreen is not chopped, so that's the main saving here.

now that painting done, we can assemble and it sure is good to be adding rather than subtracting...
PS re the seat-belt holes in the B pillar, yes that was an oversight in the early days, too many other things going on. too late to do anything now, so its a salute to the old days.



The grill is part of a HT monaro, work still in progress... did I say this was a custom job?

Yeah, I know its been a while, but we have lost a good mate. We are starting to get back on track, this is what we are up to now. The difficulty now is making rear station wagon windows two sides and rear window, they are a different shape. Glass is a problem and expensive. We have made up a metal mold and I wonder if we can use Lexcin style of perspex? Any suggestions? The old glass definitely wont fit.

You can use polycarbonate (Lexan is a trade name for a type of polycarbonate, like suntuff and ampelite). It can be fairly easily formed by heating and droop moulding, though you will want either a fair sized oven or some skill with a gas torch. Given most of the rear windows are flat (and the curves simple), you can probably do it without an oven. It has some downsides:

a) some engineers will not allow it. NCOP refers back to the Australian Standards, which do not allow polycarbonate windows.
b) it can scratch, even with the anti-scratch coatings. Big drama on a windscreen, less so on side windows (if you are careful). May mean you have to replace windows every now and then.
c) it can be wavy. Again, more of a drama on the windscreen.
