Mmmmm... that looks like a collapsible column, with a honeypot to take FB/EK steering wheel, without massive amounts of welding.

What parts were used please Mr Black?

Cheers,
Harv

Ahhh... VN Commodore guts to FB/EK honeypot one end, and rack the other end. I should have looked closer at the photos... stupid me thought it was going to retain the steering box.

Cheers,
Harv

Had another play with the column today, wasn't too happy with how tight it was with the Rares nylon bush in there rather than the bearing.
Found out by accident that a VS height adjustable column has a bearing that is perfect for the jib - is correct ID for the shaft and fits like a bought one in the FB honey pot ImageImageImage

VS bearing compared to FB bearing - bigger OD and thicker Image

Threw it all together and it spins as free as a bird - only drama is a 5mm gap between the wheel and the indicator section, so I stripped it down, marked it up and went to machine a new circlip groove in the bastard and the lathe decided that it was time for a rest ImageImage

So I fitted the bonnet hinges instead ImageImageImageImage

You have to love Holden parts bin compatibility blacky. You must be about ready to start supplying collapsible columns. Hands up.
Lathe motor fused?

No the feed screw decided to stop feeding , had to strip it and clean up the threads so we did them all while we were at it

Sit yourself down young fella and I will tell you a tale 😋😋

They are a Brodie build - VE Commode boot hinges modified to bolt to the bonnet, the bottom half front hole lines up with the stock bonnet hinge mounting hole and you drill a second hole to fit the rear mount. The stock struts aren't strong enough to hold the bonnet up so stronger struts are fitted . Gives you heaps more room for a booster - means you don't have to dick around modifying the brake pedal and moving it over to suit

Yeah Blacky,

Probably would have saved me a couple of hundred dollars.

Stock v modified, not much to it really - need to move the drip rail over a bit and make some spacers to space them off the sides, I made 2 clearances spacers for the front holes and tapped the 2 rear ones so the bolt goes in from the outside and the hinge is held on by a stud and nut arrangement Image
