First one is a bit too ricer-ish. Second setup not so bad but under dash would be much better.

Agreed...under the dash - keep it clean.

Paint looks good mate, makes me want to strip mine right down! Keep up the good work

A thort i had for my FB ute was to hing the back of the speaker cover and make a three gauge holder under it. So when you turn the key the gauges will come up out of the dash. This way it would still look stock. There is a builb called Petes FC rebuild again ( on the FE FC fourm) where he is doing this to the ashtry of a FC with two gauges.

I've got the "ashtray gauges" in the wagon:

Seemed like a good idea at the time, though in hindsight are a pain in the bum to read.

Thought of doing similar in mine with my temp gauge. As Trev said angle them a little and they should be easy enough to see. Instead I put it in my glovebox.

Nice glovebox DR. Makes me feel a little ashamed of my FB one... similar radio screwed into the bottom right corner. Does leave me some room to fit my gloves in though  .

Fingers - I reckon the new gauge pod looks OK. It might blend in a little easier if the gauges tilted up towards the roof (cut a wedge out of the base), and angled towards the driver like the green car gauge cups... not sure if there is enough room to do that on the speaker grille area though.

Cheers,
Harv

I really like the pop up under the speaker grill idea for the guages. Wouldnt be too hard to do and it would have a high cool factor!

not a whole lot mate , I have been working on the FJ ute mostly ..........although I have sorted out the steering on the FB to a stage that is acceptable for clearance all round and the Engineer ...got my T400 rebuilt and its ready to go .......just a few more lug welds to the new chassis rails and then pull it to pieces paint the under neath then fit the real motor and gearbox , diff and tailshaft .....drop it to the floor and fit the new quarter panels , that will compete the rust work ..then paint ...  .Fingers
